About 8 months ago my wife got me one of those android gaming handhelds; specifically the Anbernic RG476. I have a decent collection of roms from back when that I was able to put on it and have really been enjoying playing the old classics. I went back and beat the NES & SNES Zelda and Metroid games. Next on the docket is to beat the old Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog games again.

I'm also an old school gamer when FPS and RTS like Doom and Warcraft were hitting the market. Even though I don't always have the time to devote to game like that, I still appreciate them.

Who else is an old school gamer that enjoys the old classics? Or even the new games that have a retro vibe? Tell me what you're into. I'm always up for discovering new games that I can casually play regardless of the genera.

Anyway, here's an in-depth video of what my Anbernic RG776 can do. It's been fun reliving some of the games from my childhood; even if it's only 15 minutes at a time.

This is the closest I have

Does playing BroForce on Steam count?

Oh, and @311boogieman I'm missing "Ski or Die", "The Incredible Machine" and "Budokan" there.
Good times.

Anyone remember Crime Wave? Early 90's side-scroller, pretty gorey (exploding limbs/guts) for such an early VGA game.

Yup, retro gaming is my shizz. Been playing Robocop vs Terminator for Genesis lately, awesome game based off a Frank Miller storyline. Army of Darkness levels of blood lol.

I heard good things about this newer game Dave the Diver, as well. Graphics reminded me of Flashback. Anyone remember that one?
My copy was French! As a 13 year old, I kept a friggin dictionary next to my 486 SX 25Mhz just for that game. 😅

Retro are the only ones I have time for. Especially the greatest gen of epic role playing on Steam (Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale EE). Grabbed the original D&D gen package (Pool of Radiance/Azure Bonds, Strahd's Possession, etc) a while back, but haven't gotten around to starting them-----I'd be in trouble if someone updated these with the BG EE engine...

As a ~~grown up, I just don't have the same level of time to blow on such things....I'm tempted to get Baldur's Gate III, but I don't want to end up playing literally until sunrise as I used to now and then with BG1/2 and Icewind back in the day....:poke:

I loved Icewind Dale back in the day and wasted so much time on it.

I still play Doom to this day. First played it on PC around 96 and have been hooked ever since. With all the mods and map packs available, the game never gets old. I also enjoy playing the old king of fighters and samurai shodown games.

Doom was nice.

Edit: did you play Quake III and UT as well?

Yeah I played all the UT games. UT 99 has a special place in my heart. UT 2004 was awesome as well. I played the original quake online but missed out on quake 3.

I play the newest iteration of quake here and there. Quake champions which came out in 2017. It's quite fun. The player base is small though.

Did you ever play the Brutal Doom mod?
That's the one where it lets you aim with a mouse like modern FPS? They also redid the weapons a little bit and made it where you could "zoom in" on the sights. The gore was a bit over the top but still fitting for the game. I thought it was a good hybrid of retro look with more modern gameplay mechanics.

Yeah I played the crap out of brutal doom lol. If you use gzdoom, zandronum or UZDoom, you can use mouse look even for vanilla doom. There's also the project brutality mod that is like an amped up version of brutal doom.

Lately I've been playing the Halo Doom evolved mod. Then I combine it with the stand alone brutal doom monsters pack. It's insanely fun, especially because I loved halo back in the day. Halo weapons plus doom is awesome lol.

One of the stupidest but funniest doom mods is the beavis and butthead one. I still laugh my ass off at it.

In regards to quake, this is the newest iteration of the game, quake champions. Gameplay combined with Matthias Eklundh. I discovered this guy over 20 years ago! Time flies...
