Why do people think their relics (especially homemade) are worth a ton?

Poly finishes aren't easy to relic and you have to scrape them with a blade and then sand to blend in. You also have to hit the body with steel wool to dull it...and STILL it wont look anywhere close to a proper nitro painted then relic guitar. I think dude selling his relic MIM did alright though. Painted in some red to make it look like it had an additional colour between the black and wood. Nice touch.
 
Why do people buy relic'd guitars like that? The same reason people send a tube of toothpaste thru Amazon instead of going to the store, listen to digital instead of analog, and buy Hummers. Humans are idiots.
