Stratjacket and I were joking in another post and made me think about the different instruments in a band context and why us guitarists kick more ass.

Quick disclaimer, I play bass and drums and some singing as well. LOL.

So let's break it down here. We write the riffs and in a lot of situations are the "engine" of the band. Let's face it, drummers take 900 hours to setup and teardown their kit and are dumber than a box of rocks. Just hitting things.

Singers never help setup or teardown gear and talk to the fans after a gig right up to the point where the last mic stand is placed in the van. Then they say "oh are we packed up already?".

Bass players are the closest to us but they want us to carry the song. Plus their amps weigh as much as a 747 aircraft.

We have to learn solos, write great riffs, and learn stage tricks like flicking pics to the crowd, etc. Additionally, we have to connect with hot girls in the audience while trying to play.

The prosecution rests. Prove me wrong.

I think this alone proves your case :D

I also resent the singer wearing a guitar and attempting to play rhythm (even if they happen to also be good players which I will never acknowledge) because the audience may mistake them for being as important as us (bad enough that a bass resembles a guitar to some audience members).

LOL! Yeah like when Vince Neil would come out playing rhythm for "Same ol' Situation" and would be wearing fingerless gloves.

Why is it that drummers, the guys most reliant on using all limbs and not being inebriated, are always the biggest drunks?

What you REALLY have to ask is, who in the right mind would want to hit a drum.

Drummers x 1,0000000000000000000000000000000 Can't hold reasonable time.
120bpm = 120bpm to start the song with & they end the song at 145bpm.

My theory is that the act of drumming harms your cognitive function. I've met many intelligent people who lost their damn minds when they started playing drums.

Of course a non-drummer knows that the drummer, the most important element to keeping a performance going, should be sober. But a drummer just doesn't have the capacity to process that thought.

Yeah but you can always count on them to work in a gratuitous drum solo during the night which always gave me an opportunity to take a piss.

LOL, a few posts in and everyone is shredding the caveman-like, drunk, bastards we all refer to as "The Drummer". LOL

I will say that my buddy in Hawaii, and drummer in a punk band and rock band I was in, was the polar opposite. Organized, teacher at a high school, planner, etc. He must have started out as a guitarist.....LOL

Yeah, the best drummer I worked with was an all-styles gun at 21 and super-organised.

Turned out, as I learned after 2 years of working with him, that he started out on jazz trumpet 'til he was 15.
