Why is the Marshall JVM205/210 not more popular?!?!?

Don't get me wrong I don't think it's the GREATEST amp of all time, but jesus christ is it fun to play. It nails any possible Marshall tone I have in my head, takes to boosts very well, records well, cuts in the mix...and they are less than 1k used. What gives?!?!? I've owned several "Marshall-esque" amps, but if I want a Marshall tone I'd go with a Marshall JVM210 99 times out of 100.

Having said that, I love my D120.....but it doesn't cure my cravings for Marshall tones, I have to get another 210....and soon.

I think they're pretty decent and versatile but far from great sounding in my opinion. The mod squad, along with Barons and Surreal (based on clips) do it much better to my ears. I also liked the 5150 III quite a bit more. I think they're about as popular as they should be.

Don't get me wrong; I wouldnt mind owning one. Cool amps but there are a lot of better ones.

It's not popular on this forum because it does not ship from from Marshall already "modded" and is therefore not corksniffer approved...

I agree with they're good but not great. I think they shold have made channel two from Channel 3 on the 410 as the orange setting on that channel is a lot of fun but it's pretty good at most sounds just not great. I'm always hoping for an amp by them that would be a plexi on one channel, jcm800 on another and boosted jcm800 on the 3rd. They've never come close to how good the individual amps sound in a multi channel amp. There's a few amps I would rather have than a 210 or 410. If I had to use one as a backline amp that would be fine.

I think they're good for sure, but thought the noise floor was unusually high with the ones I've played. Possibly a power source thing but didn't have the same issue with other amps into same power. Certainly wouldn't mind using one as backline but not rushing out to buy one either.

because they're not scarce and they're affordable. to be thread worthy, we need to be able to say we have one from 201x or 198X, one with a signature, one with block lettering, one with jim marshall's name written a certain way, or one with a certain screw color.

if only marshall had thought to use different colored sharpie markers to put a little stripe on the back!

I used to own a JVM and think it is one of the best amps Marshall has come out with since the JCM 800 in the 80's. With that said, I think there are a few things that keep people from being completely pleased with them.

For the same price of some of the JVM models, you could get a Friedman, Splawn, or similar Marshall-type amp made to specs. Also, one thing I didn't particularly like, was the location of the fuses. They are buried inside the amp, making a quick fuse replacement impossible during a gig. Plus, there are like 6 fuses and they are conveniently located in spots you die from if touched.

Agreed! I think that these are the best amps they have put out since the jcm 800's. And I do like them myself.

Killertone and I have owned one from the start, some of the first to hit the USA back in 2007  Dozens of outdoor gigs, crap loads of big volume jams, beer spills, etc and she is still going strong.

NO forum cred monster thread material is the reason more do not own them, flippers cannot own a stable of amps cause that would be flipper funds tied up.

Wow....the butt-hurt generated over here with non-production or modified gear is just amazing.

Here's some tissue for your issue ~

In addition to Beer resistant, Scotts JVM is also "Pledge and Endust" resistant too...

You're probably doing it wrong if you can't make a JVM sound good. Not the greatest amp ever but definitely not terrible.

With the price you can get a used DSL50 or DSL100 for the JVM205/210's seem pretty expensive. By the time you spend for a new JVM210 is, there are other options I would rather have for the same or a little more money.

They're not bad, just not great. The JVM definitely has that "jack of all trades" vibe to it, and while that'd be great for a guitarist who could only afford one amp, there isn't that much of that going on on this forum... some of the earlier posts hit the nail on the head with the "corksniffing". :P

Bitch

That headshell is not being used, the amp weighed a ton and was getting beer rings on it

it's an amp that's interested me for a while,

great features and i'm digging the tone in most of the vids i hear, saw this recently with a P90 LP junior
killer

you can for a bit more get some awesome modded marshallesque type amps, i wouldn't mind roadtesting a jvm in any case with a minimalistic pedalboard with a boost and maybe EQ+delay in the loop

My answer is because they are very inconsistent. I have owned two 205h's and a 210. The first 205 was great and came VERY close to hanging with any boutique amp I've owned. I sold it to fund another amp. I bought a 210 later on and the basic tone was similar to my first 205, but it had a layer of white noise underneath that really got on my nerves. I later bought another 205 that was a mess.....fizzy/congested/harsh. I've also tried a couple more out in stores. Never have I been able to find one that sounds like the original 205 I had.....I should have kept it.
