Recently I thought about that and I don't have idea ... just why ? Why there are so many shit thrown at them ? Why so much hate ?
Chad showed his respect for Dimebag , Metallica so not for shitty music , so what is the problem ?

Don't know. They're alright in my book. I'm assuming because they're kinda like todays Def Leppard.

They make cliché rock/ballads for rural, simple minded people, like hair rock, nothing to care about ;) ....they do not play any role for people I like or places I go, simple

They are popular and millionaires. Chicks love them! About as good a reason as any!!

haters are mostly jealous

They are a guitar rock band today, in a world where that is rare. I'm glad they are out there keeping women interested in rock. Can't say I listen to them much. Prefer AIC or something like that.

I don't get the haters either. Whatever.

I know a lot of people hate the lyrics and hate the singer's voice. I use their tunes as a reference for a lot of the music I mix, so I listen to them pretty intensely in my studio. They play really well and his ability to track vocals and layer and double his voice is beyond amazing. Better then anyone I've ever heard. Their lyrics can be pretty strip bar cheesy but that's their audience. I think it's easy for people to disregard them who don't live and work in the reality and stress of the music business. Yeah they can be cheesy but that's where their market is. Pretty smart imo. There's a lot of dough and pressure circulating around the NB camp and lot of accountability. It can make for strange bed fellows. Hey if you hate it, go topple them and take the lead. Easier said then done.

I used to dig em during "The State" and they have some good tunes, but there's just an overabundance of cheese that I can't handle for too long. I like the genre (Alter Bridge for example) just can't stand what NB have become. Really don't like the weird collaborations they've done over the past 5 years or so either. The Santana song for example with the dance beat? No thanks. No hate, just not my cup. I do like some of their older jams though and they're not bad musicians. Saw a vid of them covering Sad But True and it was much better than Metallica.

I used to hate them with a passion but now I just accept that they are one of the biggest bands in the world and that's fine. Doesn'et mean I have to listen. If you got that huge and had the opportunity to cash in on cheesy songs, would you do it? I think more would than will admit. Still not buying their records though. ;)

That Grohl thing is hilarious BTW. Even funnier because in my opinion, after that last record they're on their way to the same status.

To me it's just pop music with heavy guitars. Very high schoolish mentality about it all. Again, no hate, just no where near my radar.

no love no hate

+1 - just really don't like much of their music- a few songs are OK. Just not in my wheelhouse, but as James says their production is amazing, and I admire their ability to become as successful as they are and stay big for as long as they have. Not easy. And absolutely, if I were younger and had the chance to become a huge star, make piles of money and bang as many groupies as I wanted, I'd be all over playing Nickelback songs lol.

Here's part of the reason:

"New" Metallica did the same thing. Listen to how similar these songs are, format-wise:

formulated garbage pop for people who don't have enough brains or experience to realize they are buying a cleverly crafted product, not a genuine piece of art or expression, as music should be

but we all have "guilty pleasures" i guess

Very astute. Like it or not, they are keeping their train rolling with what they've got... which like it or not, there's talent aboard. I liken it to the whole 'rich people criminalization' ideal. If the success isn't yours, you probably haven't put in the effort. Who cares if you don't like their image or personal choice in song formatting or lyrical choice, they've got a formula that works, and good for them.

I don't own any of their albums, but I have played a couple of their songs live, and our crowd sure responded better to those tunes than just about any song I or my band has written.

they are not def leppard not even close...why do I hate because there lyrics are written by mickey mouse, same shit every song. I actually used to like when they first landed silver side up was cool, then they got GAY.. however there recordings are thick as all hell! great tone!

I'm not a huge fan, but I do like several of their songs and I'm not ashamed to admit it. To do what they do, at the level they do it, night in and night out, is pretty much the rock star dream, isn't it? It may not be the type of music you prefer or would play if you had that level of success, but a lot of people seem to dig it based on concert ticket sales.

The music they play and the choices they make when writing their songs are clearly geared toward a specific segment of the concert-going public. So what? They know their niche and play to it well. They are on stage a couple of hundred times a year playing rock songs on drop-tuned guitars. They could be singing to recorded tracks of ambient noise layered over a drum machine while wearing suits made of meat. There are far worse things in life than Nickelback ;)
