Will a D.I. box make an acoustic louder?

I have an acoustic with a passive Black Angel pickup. When I plug into a P.A. or amp, it is considerably quieter than my other two acoustics with a battery supplied preamp on board. If I used a D.I. box of some type, will that boost the volume so it can equal the other two?

DI boxes convert instrument level signals to balanced line level signals, so yep it should.

I have a Fishman pre amp box that it extremely transparent and boosts the volume very well. Its an older unit but I'm sure they have to have something compatible made today. Good luck!

Maybe I should just get an active soundhole pickup and keep the passive as a backup.

I would look for a decent preamp pedal since you've said you enjoyed the Black Angel. Even Orange is building one, you seem to be partial to their stuff plus then it gives you more overall control of your tone since you have EQ at the preamp of your choice. My wife has the Fishman platinum. It's decent but a little overpriced and more complicated than it probably needs to be IME.

Get a preamp for it. If it's just a pickup, it needs a preamp. I have a Barcus Berry preamp that I ran my kazoo pickup through, and it made a world of difference.
