They caught alot of grief but I just revisited them for the first time in a long time and there's stellar playing and songwriting thoughout their discography. Sure, Cheezy lyrics abound but it was the norm back then. Kip Wingers Solo stuff is absolutely badass as well, Dont expect it to be anything like Winger though, just good solid tunes...

Yes, they were and still are a great band. They blew me away when we opened for them last year. I still cannot get over how heavy they were live.

Kage, Neal Schon has a great cover story in this months Guitar Player.

i agree....they used to be one of my fave bands...and nice guys too. Saw them live once and was blown away by their technical abilities.

Solid player, songwriter, and composer. I believe he's a Berkley grad...not sure, though. He and Joe Bonamassa were at a booth this past winter NAMM checking out a rotating Leslie type speaker cabinet....I was like "hey you're...and you're..." and as I was thinking that, Richie Kotzen walked by.....trippy few minutes.

reb beach !!! winger!! always wanted an ibanez voyager after seeing reb beach play it...saw winger live around '89 or so....awesome concert...cinderella, winger, bullet boys....great concert

One of my favorite "Hair Metal" bands. I like all of their material but think Pull is their best. IMO, it is their best release by far. Their newest release (IV) was pretty good. I am a huge Reb Beach fan. He makes playing the guitar look fun and easy.

Hey Kage,

I will be in Manhattan this coming Sunday through Tuesday. Anything fun or cool to do in that area (restaurants, music gear etc)?

I'm embarassed to say, but I saw them in a tiny club (The Newport) in Columbus ohio. It was their first tour and they opened for Poison. Reb Beach really blew me away he was incredibly precise with his rhythm and soloing. They were very tight.

You learning a number for the band Kage?

I guess I should chime in here! 100% in agreement. To be honest, they catch the whole unfair rep for the first album, and you can see why. However like some other bands, they seemed to mature when they dumped Beau Hill. Pull is a sick, sick album.

I also love Kips solo stuff, his arrangements floor me everytime. Killer voice too.

Reb told me he dropped out (or got kicked out of) of Berklee because he only turned up for lunch!

Their songs and skills weren't what killed Winger, it was almost entirely Beavis and Butthead that turned people off them. Too bad, they rocked.

it wasn't beavis or butthead that killed winger, it was Stuart :D

I saw them open for Bad Company in a small theater in Pittsburgh. They were tight.

I agree, Kip is very very talented in arrangement and his voice is great. Beach fits it just right! I love pull....remember getting laid to "spell I'm under" weeks before I met my wife..some random really hot blonde and she loved the song!

They had talent all over the place.

Complex rhythms - I have a bitch of a time trying to play some ther songs.

Mike

All this love for the Pull album makes me smile. For years I thought I was the only one that GOT IT.

Reb is one of the best from that era imo. I find his shredding to be "classier" than many of his peers if that makes any sense.

Great band, I gots to see them at the show they filmed for their new dvd. Great show. I agree they are very heavy live.
The other guitarist was pretty good, but Reb tore it up.
I met Reb at Tone Merchants earlier this year. He is a very cool guy no rock star ego. I gots to talk with him for awhile. He joked about having to go on after Guthrie Govan. (why botha)  Is sound that night was awesome, but than again I may be bias, as I play a OD100SE+.
