I'm toying with the idea of going wireless but haven't done too much research yet on different wireless systems. Any recommendations or experience, good or bad, with certain brands? Convince me one way or the other

Seems like a lot of guys here really like the Line 6 Relay stuff. I don't know much about the subject, just getting you started :).

I have the Line 6 relay...it's GREAT. Haven't had a problem with it and it doesn't seem to affect tone. I tried one of the Brace Audio units first and that was a nightmare.

I haven't tried the Line 6 stuff, heard great things, I've been using a Senhisser one for quite a while though and its GREAT

I just picked up the line 6 relay G50. I love it. So much easier because no level setting. No more chance of noise interference because it is multichannel and encrypted. It can be used internationally too. I like the g50 over the g90 because it is more versatile. I can use it in my rack on a shelf or I can use it when I running through a back lined rig like a stomp on a pedal board. G50 has the most bang for the buck in the relay series. it is built well, Metal with rubber grips. Far better than my Shure, Senn, and EV. All cost 2x to 3x times more than my G50. Time will tell on reliability but So far it is all good.

DO NOT BUY THE OLD X2 series wireless. I was told you will have issues with the channels the use in some areas.

I have been using a beta tester version of the Line6 G50, and LOVE it. Batteries last, no interference, no dropped signals (and I've used them on and near military bases, and near radio station towers), and it sounds like a guitar w/ a cable... NO joke

HIGHLY recommended!!!

Damn, seems like Line 6 is the way to go. Thanks for all the feedback. Now I just need to decide if I want to ditch the old trusty cable.

Wireless is the way! Plus the relay has cable modeling so if you like the sound of a 20ft cable you can have it by turning a knob.

interesting, what changes sonically by switching on and off the cable modeling?

I ALWAYS have extra cables, fuses, batteries, etc... and haven't had any glitches to speak of... This thing is a REALLY BIG bang for the $$$

It simulates what happens sonically when you run a longer guitar cable, which is a subtle taming of the high end clarity. I A/B'd w/ cables and noticed NO difference in tone, and trust me when I tell you I listened very carefully-- because it matters to me.

Right on. So basically a simulation of high end attenuation. Might have to pick one of these up.

What do the preferred Line 6 systems go for new and used? A nice wireless would be a good thing to have..

I've got the line 6 G90 and it is just awesome. Very reliable and puts the old X2 units to shame. I like how it shows you your packs battery life on the rack unit so you don't have to keep awkwardly turning to check the transmitter all the time on stage or just having to guess if you're about to run out.

I was a beta tester and got mine free, but the G50 for around $399, and the G90 Rack version around $599

Hmmmm..... May have to incorporate a G90 into my rig, but I have one space left on the front of the rig, and am saving it for a Tri-Stereo Chorus (some day). Then again perhaps an excuse to update the rig to a Kriz Kraft 21 space rack case...

Another Line 6 Relay G50 user here. It is my first wireless and don't see the need to try any others. If you ever see deals on packs of AA batteries go ahead and pick them up. It doesn't suck batteries, but they do go a little quicker than I was expecting. It has a hi/lo power setting though which will cut down on the transmitter range supposedly to save battery life. So do expect to spend money on batteries over the life of the unit, but to me the sense of mobility and the transparent tone I am getting from the unit make it all worth while.

Oh, and I waited until Guitar Center or MusiciansFriend was doing one of their 15% off sales before buying it so got it for like $340. Used they are less but I don't like buying stuff like that used.

I've had the Sennheiser G2, Line 6 X2 and now the Relay G50. The Relay is the way to go. Good clarity, well built and the cable length adjustment is a cool feature. Sennheiser is a great unit, but it's my understanding that the FCC will be re-assigning some bandwidth frequencies and there could be interference issues very soon in the future (think Spinal Tap at the Air Force base). The Line 6 stuff is all digital and not impacted by this as I understand it. X2 is a toy, don't bother.

A few weeks ago, I bought the little Line 6 X2 XDS95 'pedal' size model on a whim for $125.00, and tried it out on stage with a whole bunch of other wirelesses going, and it sounded great and worked without a hitch. I think they may have upgraded the NOS ones at the factory to new frequencies. The best sounding wireless for 125 bucks, I'll say that much. :)
