I've been interested in this as well. A dumb question about the line 6 relay G50. Can you run the receiver with batteries or is it AC adapter only. I like what I have read about it so far.

no on the batteries on the receiver but you can use any standard 9 volt wallwart. So if you have it in a pedalboard with a "voodoo labs pedal power" or the like you can add this to your power chain.

I was powering my pedal board with a one spot and it is a frickin' noise machine so I went back to batteries. Thanks for the info.

Use a power supply w/ isolated transformers, and isolate your audio lines from your power lines. If you have to have them intersect-- do so at a 90 degree angle-- problem solved.

Cool info. I have a buddy at Line 6, time to talk to him at when I'm out at NAMM.

I think you should talk to him about a pair of them so we can both go wireless

So far Ive owned a G30 and a G90...Still have the G90. The 30 was good also but the 90 is more transparent.

Will do.

I bought the G30 when it first came out before the other 2 models were released.

Dirt cheap and I cant fault it......

I'm having a dilemma between the G50 and G90. If I get the G50 I'd have to cram it in the back of my rack or pull it out and put it on top of my rack during each gig -or- I get the G90 and have it racked in my last rack space. Has anybody tried using the G50 buried in the back of their rack with the antennas not in any line of sight from your transmitter? I'm hesitant to do this and am leaning towards the less hassle, but more expensive, G90. Thoughts?

I got a b-stock G90 for just under $400usd because it has a tiny scratch on the front.
This is the best wireless unit you can get as far as I'm concerned and for the amount you pay you'd be crazy to look elsewhere, outperforms my old shure unit Which was 4-5 times as much

I never got on with the Line 6 stuff. I like the original X-Wire 905 much better, and if you have the means: AKG DMS 700 Digital Wireless System

More interference problems. Steve Stevens had to quit using them at casinos because of issues with that.

The transmitter isn't built very well. I had to have my leads reconnected twice.

Ate batteries like a bitch.

Tone is pretty good, I just find the other 2 better without the hassles. I purchased 2 Original X-Wires for $150 total. The AKG is $$$ . But pretty sweet.

Lectrosonics is the only way to go wireless, unless you have the cash for Zaxcom stuff..

Never heard of these but I will check them out.

I have had no issues doing this. Plus the g50 will work in a pedal board/amp head setup if you choose to change it up in the future. IMO I can't justify the extra $200 for rack ears and 100 extra feet of signal. If you are playing a football field away from your amp you would probably need more of a solution than just the g90.

The new Relays are digitally encrypted over multiple channels I don't know that the old X systems were. I could be wrong but I doubt that interference is still an issue. I don't know anyone that doesn't change batteries before a show especially at a semipro/pro level. That's why you hire a string and battery guy (guitar tech). Easy is selecting a channel the very first time you use the relay and from there on out never have to do anything again. No messing with levels, changing levels for different guitars.

I play a few casinos with the relay 30 and have never had a problem with interference.

Just telling you what my experience was. I did change batteries every show. But when the show is 5 hours a night the batteries didn't make it. I can get 2 nights easy out of the Xwire. Plus it's 4 AA instead of a 9volt. So, 2 1/2 9volts vs 4 AA is not cost effective. I was at the shop when Steve and Dave were talking about the interference problems. Not lying to you guys - if no one else has these problems that's great for you.

The relay uses 2 AA as far as I know. Can easily get 6-8 hours out of it.
