Just picked up a Wizard 4x12 cab to go with my 2016 MCII.
Cab is about 10 -12 years old, but pretty much mint condition, and came loaded with 2 x Heritage G12H30 55hz greenbacks on the bottom, and 2x G12H30 70th Anni's on the top.
It's a little bright / aggressive / harsh in that config with the MCII.
Suggestions???

Paging @TheGreatGreen he has killer Wizzer tone.

I moved from those speakers to redbacks and am in love. But fane f70s, greenbacks, v30s, k100s all sound great

All the Wizard clips you've heard from me don't use real cabs so don't look to those clips for real cab inspiration. :)

However I've heard nothing but good things about Wizard cabs though. What I will say is that I'm not surprised the G12H30's are giving you an overly bright tone. Those speakers tend to have the H style magnet characteristic extended top end thing that can be a little much, especially when you have an amp with some zing in it like a Wizard.

I'm kind of caught up in the Karnivore hype at the moment. To my ear they're better V30's with a wider and richer midrange, and without the V30 upper spike. For something like a Modern Classic, I'd recommend either those or Redbacks.

Wizards have a lot of top end zing to them.

In my experience, that means best results have generally been with a speakers that are not strident in the high end, which by definition excludes a lot of the greenback family IMO, except for the ones that have a smoothed over top end like the 65 creamback

Either way, I think they sound best with V30s, Redbacks, Fane F70s

I know I'm going to get a bunch of disagreement with this, but it's just my experience - I don't think they sound great with real greenbacks or reissues - you end up fighting the "zingy" nature of the top end instead of rolling with it, and I just don't think it sounds as good as with something smoother like a creamback or v30

I don't know if you have another cab, but I 100% would use another cabinet with an MCII

Not that greenbacks are bad speakers at all. On the contrary they are rad - just not a good match with an MCII IMO

We should start an amp company called Dr. Zingy and just get sued to shit

On the contrary, Dr Z generally have a pretty smooth, controlled top end XD
If you haven't had a chance to use the z with golds, you gotta try it sometime. It is a very cool pairing

V30s only is best .

Thanks guys!
Yeah the H magnet 55hz greenbacks are killing me with the MCII.
I'm not sure what amp the previous owner was using with this cab, but it may have been an SLO.
Sure as fuk was NOT a Wizard.
Anyway, I have a spare quad of V30's, so I'll probably start by swapping out the 2 Heritage H30's for V30’s and see how it sounds.
My main cab is a custom built, vintage spec Marshall B cab with V30’s and EVH greenbacks that sounds decent with the MCII, but I feel like there might be a better speaker match out there to put in the Wizard cab.

That's a good call man

I would say the V30s are going to be the odds on best from what you already have kicking around

Greenbacks are the way to go…or Wizard Rock 20’s. Or Greenbacks….Greenbacks work best…

I don't know man...my former mid 90's Wizard cab w/6402 coned GB reissues was smooth as silk
Yep Greenbacks are not bright at all with a Wizard…V30’s on the other hand will tear your head off with treble.

Well I don't have a Wizard or Wizard cab, but everything you mention is everything I hate about the 70 Anniversary G12H30's.

I do have a pair of the 55hz Heritage G12H's mixed with Fane AXA12's in a 4x12, and that cab sounds fantastic. Fat and punchy in a vintage way and never harsh is how I would describe that cab. While not a Wizard I do sometimes play it with a Hiwatt DR103 which is the most percussive ballsy amp with incredible midrange grind I ever played through.

Another thought that would pair really well is the Heritage G12H 75hz. I know they're modeled after the same speakers as the Anniverary model, but the two speakers just have a completely different vibe. The Heritage is warmer, woodier for lack of a better term, but they have that punchy bass and fat midrange grind you want out of a good Celestion.
