PV is usually around 480. Bias the Wizard around 33 on the hottest tube.

Yeah mine is like 500.
Mine as well. The MTL is around 505 and the MCII is around 515.

What cabs are everyone using?

Love my MTL '16
Bogner Uber and a splawn 212 all w/V30's
Didn't like it near as much with V30s, as I did with GBs.

I've found that I need 2 v30s mixed in there for it to sound best to me. I like a brighter tone though. I have 5 cabs - 4 of them have 2 v30s on the bottom, with either GB, M75s or J75s on top. My favorite is the J75/v30 combo - which I have in both wizard cabs.

I am a big fan of both mtl and mc with v30's.

I also like combo of g12m and v30
creamback h75 and v30
h30 and v30.

hell, any variant of greenback mixed with v30.

I feel that v30s record and takes mics perfect.

I do like V30s. But, like a Marshall, GBs sound better than V30s to my ears with a Wizard. I find with a Marshall if I'm using V30s I have to really back the mids down. Same with the Wizard MTL. I haven't tried mixing V30s/GBs together though..I have a Bogner V30 cab coming and I want to try 2 H30 Ann in there on top, I've heard that's a good mix.

-thanx for the volume pot info LESPAUL6, guess I'll wait to hear back from Rick,

-speakers I've tried and mixed, greenbacks-(75hz & 55hz)-V-30's & FULLBACK, at moderate volumes-(yeah I know)-the V-30's & 55hz greenback combo sounded the best, at "people/cops/neighbors/landlord's knocking @ your door door, just when she starts to sound her best volumes" the FULLBACK, this pairing reminds me of the description's people used to describe a WIZARD before you actually played one.. better than a carnival ride, you better have everything nailed down and hang on tight, its a hell of a ride...

Exactly what I have been using with my MTL for a couple years now. V30's and Heritage H30 55 hz cones mix.

Yeah different strokes I guess.
I've tried H30's, cream H75's, and EVH's and I still like V30's the best.
I like a bright, cutting tone

Do you have an MTL or an earlier Metal? All V30's sounded good. When I was doing my testing I found the low end was better with the H-30's 55hz cones. This was with an MTL. The MCII I had next to the MTL liked an H-30 mix. 75 hz and 55 hz over V-30's although they didn't sound bad.

Cool. The Metal is a different animal. Not like the MTL. Much closer to the MCI with a different voicing.

Oh ok

Wow... So I put a pair of Ruby EL34 BHT tubes in my MTL 50. Those are the ones for high plate voltage. Mine measured at 530! Wow did this thing react. It literally cleaned up a lot of the issues I was having and just made it more HIFI overall.

Tubes make a big difference. I like the old Svetlanas or Winged C in my MTL. I also prefer to keep a JJ in V2. I like NOS in V1 and V3. Long plate JJ works well in the PI slot

Yeah man sure do. I don't have a major stash of tubes to work from. But it did try Svetlanas and =c= prior to this. Just weren't cutting it.

I'll start playing around with the 12ax7 tubes next.

is it strange that i like the stock tubes?

I like the stock JJ long plates that Rick used in mine a well. I was playing through one of my modern classics last night and noticed a drop in volume and then return after the amp warmed up for a bit. I suspected a bad power tube. I played around with the volume and a surge from the shorted tube caused the HT fuse to blow.

Turns out it was NOT the power tubes but the Sovtec LPS in the phase inverter position that was causing the trouble.

One other thing for Modern Classic owners, try out different tubes in the V3 position... it can change the tone of the amp drastically!
-in the drive channel-

Mine had no name no brand (generic Chinese I presume) 12ax7 tubes in it. So I don't know if they were original.

-hmmmm. maybe I should try more tubes!!... I was gonna ask if other WIZARD owner's had noticed that different power tubes make little difference, thou I've only tried the stock JJ E34L's & GOLD LION KT77's, I thought there would be a drastic tonal change-(only difference between these two were the typical GOLD LION very articulate, almost too much dynamic's)-but the voicing stayed the same, I did a change over to GOLD LION pre's with little if any change in tone-(I have a good stash of pre's at 100+/- mostly NOS)-it's hard tube rolling these "things" with out just wanting to play...

-what kinda bias are you guys using?... I'm at 46

My bias is around 40. What is your B+? I think mines 480
