I will check the rhtyhm channel also with a boost as you suggested. My aim is to make it as close as possible to a MC or a Rock Standard. Do not want to neglect that channel at all. Maybe a Leopard Boost also helps.

@RedB4Black @WizardSouth-JP do you have any suggestions in that regard, since you have experienced all the flavours?

According to the images, they really make me hunt for the other Wizards, especially MC. Thank you providing them though. It makes sense now, Adam Jones having a few. As the first Wizard I think MTL2 was a right choice for me but now I tasted it once, asking for more. This is really a dangerous game.
You’re hooked and I love it

If your aim is to get as close as possible to an MC or RS, then get one of those as well!

Otherwise, dial back the gain and saturation, up the bright and presence, decrease the depth and disengage the mid-cut pull. You can probably get close enough that way.

Yeah in the long run for sure, I cannot get that sound out of my head and would like to experience all the flavours. I am just trying to understand the rhtyhm channel and explore the amps full potential.

Today I experienced the rhtyhm channel further and here is what I get:
Without the black cat mod the amps is too ‘clean’ which I do not enjoy much. It feels like a pedal platform or so. The black cat mod brings the fun for me and we are in the AC/DC territory. Plexi like, bright, open. The internal boost adds noticeable body, which I also enjoy. Pushing it further with a TS style pedal (Halcyon Green), this I really really enjoyed. Saturated, liquidy and dense, super nice hard rock lead sound. Doug Aldrich style lead lines just flew out of the board. For rhythm it’s a bit too much, then either the ts or internal boost should be turned off, depending on the taste.

I emailed Rick and closer to a Rock Standard / MC would be a Leopard Pedal in the front of the rhtyhm channel (black cat and boost off) he responded. I expect it to be expensive so not sure if it’s worth it at this stage.

I tried the Leopard Boost with the Rhtyhm Channel of MTL II. On top of Black Kat and internal boost, that channel becames alive. To be honest I had struggled to dial that channel before (still looking forward for suggestions to dial in that channel) but with the LB it results very good mid-forward, classic hard rock tones. I am enjoying the amp even more now.

MCII owner here. One of my favorite amps of all time.

Quick thought: Took me a while—longer than usual—to dial in and bond with mine. But once we got to know each other; holy shit. Worth the trouble, worth the wait. 100%

Enjoy it in good health! It’s probably will be my next purchase as well

Congrats!
I'm not sure of the differences between a MTL and a MCII (mine) Rhythm channel tone but I have mine set up for a nice sweet edgy clean when playing soft and then just break up if I hit it hard. That channel loves a classic boost too like a TS9 or SD-1. I don't have the 'Black Cat' option on mine unfortunately.

I think perhaps picture of Adam with the Wizard was perhaps from the FI sessions? Joe Barresi has a huge collection of amps he brings out for tracking.

This is from the Reload sessions, you can spot the Wizard in top left corner on top of Bobs 'Asshole' Marshall.

James and Pepper. You can see James's fave MC1 and also see he had another two Wizards at the time.

This one is from the Hardwired sessions. Not sure who owns it but it made an appearance at that time. Seeing the Recto and TS9 on and running at the same time I presume it could have been during Kirk's tracking sessions rather than James.

That les paul is sick.

How do you set your MTL amps? I was running the Bright up high around 7-8 but dialing it back to 5-6 and increasing treble instead provided better results to my ears. Still, there is a lot of room for dialing and discovery.

Hi all! Now I am on the edge of buying a MC. @Brandonrz told in one of his videos that once you get a Wizard, you want more. He is absolutely correct. MTL is great for “Metal” and I can get fairly satisfactory Rock sounds boosting the Rhtyhm channel. But I am very curious about the MC and that Garage Inc. sound is always in my head.

The one I am looking for is from 2016 and with A transformers. I am not sure how these compare with the current ones. I would like to ask to the authority of knowledge in these amps @WizardSouth-JP, @RedB4Black, @VHTStark, @Philhouse, @peterc52, @braintheory. I would be glad if you share your experiences.

Thank you for your time!

Wizards are great. Among the best.

BUT that Garage Inc. sound is heavily processed and is a combination of God knows how many amps. There's lots of IIC++ in that sound. Grease and compression. The MC/MCII will provide punch and clarity to the overall tone but its a mix for sure. Reload (left channel) is much more indicative of the raw tone the MC provides. Good luck with your search!

Absolutely. MTL is just not like anything else I tried before and I would like to experience more of the core tone. My biggest hesitation about the MC is being from 2016 and not a II. I will pull the triger anyway most probably.

I also agree on what you mentioned about Garage sound. The guitars in Garage and Reload has the best tonal character amoung their albums to my ears, that is why I thought I would like MC as well.

This is the output transformer of the MC. I did not hear about A transformers before.

I don’t think that’s a 2016. The date on the transformer looks like October 2009 (if that is indeed the date…10/09)

By 2016 he was using V transformers for 100w amps and C for 50w.

I had a 2014 MC2 100w with V transformers. It sounded great. Not sure how the A is, but I wouldn’t expect significant difference. I’ve had my 50w C next to a 100w V and they sounded fairly close

Yes the transformer seems to be from 2009 as you mentioned. I will ask the seller. If they are close enough that’s still fine. Some time ago I read somewhere the A transformers tend to sound darker but I do not remember where. I am curious about the Lead Channel and as far as I know it’s fairly similar across all the versions.

I'd get the newer MC1 Mk2 - it covers everything from the Marshall KERRANG thing to full out metal if you boost it up front, turn up the gain or even pull the gain boost but that's not totally necessary. Great saturation and THUMP.

I would also prefer to have a newer one, I will live in the Lead Channel so not sure if I necessarily need a MCII. The price of that one is suitable and now it's on the bench of Dan Gower for fresh tubes / service which is a huge plus from my side. My only hesitation is the amp having an A Transformer, there is not much information about them. Just emailed Rick asking them but not sure if he would return.

Not the MCII, the MC1 - Rick has a Mk2 version now of the MC1, simpler layout and a little less money than the MCII. The Modern Classic and the Modern Classis II are different amps.
