Not sure if you've ever had a bogner ecstasy but I would throw that into the mix as it's very versatile and sounds killer. A current MCII will be very hard to find used. Most for sale don't have all the updates. A proper MCII will be more versatile than the SLO. The wizard sounds killer recorded and mic'd up. It has extended highs and lows which makes it seem scooped (to me) when you stand in front of it. The SLO has 2 killer midrange cutting channels w(shared eq) and will always work for live where you can turn it up. At home it's still good but you don't get the same punch at low volumes. Xtc is more versatile than both and great live and at home. I have a 100b so have not tried a 20th. I just sold my MCII for bills and still have an SLO

Just sold my 20th. The Wizard and he SLO just dominated it in every way.

I agree. I own a Bogner, but it is not in the same league. I'd rather have the SLO or Wizard than the Ecstasy.

To the OP: Also consider the Friedman Brown Eye or Dirty Shirley. Those amp kill for the tones he wants
I have a 100B so probably different sounding than a 101b or 20th. These are all fine amps and you just have to try them all and pick one that fits your sound. Wizard while sounding excellent I noticed can give ear fatigue cuz its so punchy in the high end. Also took a while to dial in from home sound to practice was completely different. It recorded really nice. SLO really shows off weakness in playing as it can be unforgiving and also shows me which of my guitars are good or bad sounding. SLO is a workhorse and always delivers in a live mix and easy to dial in. Also you can never tell with these amps until its in a band mix if its going to work for you. Regardless just buy one of them and flip it and get the other because that's what we do here.

yes I did, I responded right away but haven't heard back. It really looks great, please get in touch again. You may have the winner

Ok, sent you reply, I'll check shipping when u send the zip

Before you buy the Wizard or the SLO, please listen to these clips here

Just for the comparison, here is a Wizard MC2

and here is a Soldano HR25, which is in a nutshell a MiniSLO

with pedals:

The Wizard might be more powerful cause it has its big power section of 100Watts but the HR25 sounds crunchy as hell, articulation, clear, crunchy, you name it. You can crank this sucker also, its more practical theerfore. You can buy this HR25 pretty cheap used. 1600used or 2200new. I would try the HR25 first, and if you dont like it you still can sale it without much loss. The SLO has a bad loop and you need to crank it till you get in its sweet spot.

Had 2 SLOs. Sounded killer on 1-2, and better with more volume. For 2200 you're just a couple hundred away from a used SLO. Paid 2500 and 2200 for each of mine. No contest.

What did you decide on?

Well, basically I got a ton of people that had wizards but could never follow through with a sale. There were a number of factors like having to wait because someone has dibs, it was their friends and they had to check and get back to me, would send me pics later (3+ days now and nothing), etc etc. I realize stuff takes a day or two but when a guy has cash in hand, and I want to sell something, I will get the buyer the info they need. At this point there's two guys that have been good and told me straight up they had to wait till Monday for various reasons and one guy I missed in the shuffle. Other than that, I guess I just have to order a new Wizard. At this point, I may as well just buy an slo and be done with it. I did find an ultra clean Gibson e2 in tobacco burst. I've been looking for one of those for a awhile so as long as it makes it here in good shape, I can wait till this week to find the amp I will grab. Halebox, expect a pm from me after tomorrow pans out.

I've heard some great Wizard clips and AC/DC sounds killer with them. I'm just not sure who else plays them live. I know a lot of folks are still using the SLO. I've played and owned many of the high gain amps on the market today and the I always come back to the SLO. It's not perfect, but if you use it for what it can do (from blues to hard rock) it sure can deliver! Don't overlook the Normal channel either....its just as nice as the Overdrive channel and quite versatile. The SLO can be finicky though....tubes and speakers can make or break your experience. But when dialed in the SLO is really hard to beat. The amp is like a classic muscle car IMHO.

I have a Wizard MTL I am considering selling if you or anyone else is interested pm me , I might put her in the classifieds soon with a couple other heads.. Killer amp ! .. I sent you a pic

I own a SLO, a 93 Metal and a 94 VC-100.
The SLO cannot give you the tone the Wizards can. The Wizards cannot give you the tone the SLO can.
If you stop for a minute and think about your choices, you're probably choosing between two of the very best built amps on the market today. Both very versatile and both insanely great sounding amps.
I would advice you getting a SLO first, only because it's a bit easier to sell in case you decide to try the Wizard too.
Realistic, save more money and get them both. They complete each other and your smile will always have a smile in your face when you remind yourself the amps you own.
