Would two 2x12 match up against one 4x12??

But I play quite often and we gig regularly and just need to work on our tone. (as advised by many pros that is what we need to work on, when people that have been there done that tell me hey you guys are great but your tone sucks it makes it a big deal for me to address)

So its kind of imparitive that we do just that.

It is just a lot of $$ and headaches..As you might be able to see above im also having guitar tone issues.

It's just happens--gremlins. At rehearsal last night using the same rig I've been using for months I couldn't sound lime anything but ass. No idea why. Just a bad night, but now I have at least 12 hours worth of diagnostics ahead of me

I'm not quite understanding the logic of 2 2X12s being easier to load than a 4X12, mainly because with a 4X12 you can roll it easier than bending down etc. in one trip vs at least two with 2 cabs. The best thing to do to make load-ins less of a hassle is to get a good hand cart (http://rocknroller-multicart.myshopify.com). You can easily load a 4X12 or 2 2X12s with one of these (and tons more). Carrying stuff up stairs? Yeah that could be easier with a 2X12 but it still sucks without a bandmate to help you.

That said my bogner OS 2X12 sounds very close to my bogner 4X12 it's also not much smaller or lighter though

It's going to sound different. Not necessarily better or worse...but different. If you are bottom end you are after, you might be left unsatisfied though. Either way, the amp is working on a lower impedance output with two 212's as compared to one 412, which will alter things somewhat. Then again, maybe this is something that will work well with your amp.

Literally just got my second Splawn cab a few hours ago. The two matching cabs sound pretty damn huge with the Dual Rec.

I like the idea of two 2x12 cabs, it would sound different for sure,maybe better.
And you can position the 2 for better,or just a different sound range.

I used 2 2x12s for years and I gotta say that as awesome sounding as they were, together they didn't have the thunk and resonance of a single 4x12 cab.

I think if you stacked 2 Mesa Recto 2x12's ontop of eachother it woul sound pretty massive. But isn't that lugginng more gear than a single 4x12? The Mesa 2x12's are doable with 1 arm but pretty heavy still.

I've done this and they do sound big, but somehow more focused and directional than a Mesa 412 (even the traditional).

Something about cranking a Mark with the Mesa Traditional 412 is just jaw dropping. That cab is tuned so well-open and "big" sounding and fills the room, yet more focused in the mids with smoother highs without being directional and harsh.

Two Recto 212s to me sounded more 'hi-fi' or processed in a way and not as balanced depending on where I stood. Boomy and muffled in some spots in the room and directional and thin in others. Might be that whole parallel vs series/parallel thing, who knows...

I use two 2x12's live. Much better sounding than any 4x12 I ever owned. Port City's. Much better than my Diezel or Mesa 4x12's.
