Would you consider Andy Timmons on the same lovel as Satch?

Satch DESTROYS Timmons. just stop even trying to rationalize it. Next time Timmons pulls a solo like this out of his ass, call me. Timmons getting wailed on starts at 2:15.

take all that soft rock shit and burn it. this one solo is better that anything Timmons will ever play in his life.

Meh, monkey tricks...... :D

Of course I'm biased because I like Timmons, never been much of a Satch or Vai fan and I haven't listened to enough of their catalog to really know. From what I have listened to, I believe Timmons is more well rounded and I just dig his vibe & style.

Here's an example of where IMO Satch is just out of his element in pretty much every way, tone, playing etc. Obviously it's just my opinion and subjective, but I think Timmons would have been a better fit. Then again, for this particular gig & style Warren Haynes probably would have smoked them both..... :dunno:

Either way, Grace Potter is friggin' HOT!

Satch owns Timmons? Really? That is a foolish thing to say as they are all amazing players....Timmons, Kotzen, Satch, Lukather, and on and on. Not sure anybody owns anybody on that level. I like a lot of players. Satch has a bounce and energy to him that is unique. Timmons has a feel and soul that is mature and speaks deeper to me than most other players. I prefer Timmons overall to Satch. Andy Timmons seems to have more to say via guitar than most anybody else I have heard. Satch is in my top ten but behind Timmons, Kotzen, Lukather, Holdsworth and others.

Andy "OWNS" Satch here.....  :D

Just basic Andy here....

Well my dad can beat up your dad.
I was just going to post this!!

What is a 'level' for guitar virtuosity? Is this Candy Crush?? Both cats are  x 1000. But the nod goes to Satch in my book. However, to be compared to Satch is quite an honor for any guitar player.

I put Satriani on a slightly higher pedestal. I love Timmons' playing, believe me. He's a very soulful, toneful guitarist. His material is solid. I just think Satch has been more prolific, arguably more versatile, and was overall more influential. His earliest, essential work is legendary. Timmons just doesn't have that sort of back catalog.

I agree with this as well....

Plus Timmons didn't start his own record company.

Your SLO is jealousy-inducing, BTW.

Satch has so many lengendary instrumentals that it's just ridiculous. He's the master of melodic instrumental shredding by far...........

Yeah there were electric guitar instrumentals before Satch, but he has made the genre his bitch since '87...........Timmons is a very talented guitarist. Joe Satriani is a guitar legend with endless iconic compositions. There is a world of difference...........

Andy is on Satch's level as far as chops go, but so what.........It's Satriani's prolific melodic compositional gifts that totally set him apart. Same thing that sets EVH apart from all the pretenders with good chops & tone......

It's perfectly fine to prefer Timmons, but don't try to make him what he's not.....

Well said.

I know Satch has had a greater impact on the instrument and has published more music. But I'd rather listen to Timmons. If I could choose one, I'd rather be able to play the guitar like Timmons. I don't care how many albums Satch has made.
