Looking for a clean great condition VH-140c head. If ya got one you want to part with, hit me up.

Ya those amps KICK ASS!!
Had an Amp fest several years ago.
Member brang one up. It was impressive

Been wanting one for years, and had several slip through my fingers cause I debated too long.

I have one and you can't have it. But, there is one on Fleabay, if you want to pay $600. Seems a little high, but worth a look.

Yeah....saw that one already. Way to high, especially for the shape it's in.

I've got one in good shape (way better than the one on ebay) sitting at my studio...wasn't really planning on selling it, but I rarely use it, so pm me and maybe we can work something out.

Cool  PM'd ya.

How do these sound at Low Volume? I'm still looking for something that i can play during the day/night without really annoying my neighbors. My Soldano Avenger on 2 shakes the walls & scares small children, animals, little people.

Sounds the same at tv volumes as band volumes, one of the few heads I’ve found to be like this. Just gotta be sure you have a stereo cab to get full power

This is one that slipped through my fingers. Tom has beat to more than one amp; this one included

I miss mine. Mine lasted thru the 90s til about 2002 til one day it caught fire cranking it up at home. It was so used and abused and went thru hell... There was no telling what caused it and have never heard of these amps blowing up like mine did. It was such a good amp.

The Ampeg VH-140C is already stereo. It houses 2 independent 70W power amps. It's similar to the Roland JC-120 Jazz Stereo Chorus (which I have owned for over 12 years now and love it) but the Ampeg is designed with more crunch and searing high gain tones.

I had 2 Ampeg VH-140C combos years ago. I had them setup as a master/slave configuration and it sounded fantastic. The built-in stereo chorus was beautiful and very thick and lush. The delays were also fantastic particularly in a left-right ping-pong setting. And by the way, both combos were fitted with all 8 Ohm Celestion G12-T75 75W speakers.

The VH-140C being a solid-state amp means that you can achieve great tone at any volume. Unlike typical tube guitar amps that need to cook for a while before they can really open up and come to life. The only downside to solid-state guitar amps is that the hotter they get the more the dynamics tend to fade somewhat and dissipate. On the other hand, the hotter your all tube guitar amp becomes at a proper bias setting the happier it becomes.

Good luck on finding a decent Ampeg VH-140C head. I would without a second thought shell out $4/500 for a decent well cared for VH-140C Combo. I wish I still had both of mine. An excellent guitar amp!

Just a little trivia history about Ampeg and where it acquired its name. Stanley Michaels, an electrical engineer and amp technician worked for Ampeg back in 1946. Stanley had observed and realized that the double upright or standup bass volume was being lost in the big band performances as the ensembles grew much larger at that time. Stanley then designed a pickup for the double upright bass that clamped above the nut, the pegbox and then onto the scroll at the tip of the head stock to amplify its volume. Hence, this is where the owners and engineers came up with the company name now widely known as "Ampeg". I thought that was clever.

I have owned a few VH140c's. They were made here in STL, so I can find them pretty regularly used around town. If I see any in good condition, I will post here for anyone that wants to grab one.

Mine cooked too, was pretty cool while it was alive. It let forth a hellacious squeal and then expired! I bought it new in '90 and got about five years out of it. The head went in a dumpster during a move. I still have the matching 4x12s but those now look kinda like the circuit board in errrrrl's amp.

Double yikes :aww: :aww: Man, I hope these were just a couple of isolated incidents.

Mine had the crap kicked out of it. I think they are generally reliable for what they are but they are creeping up in age. Find a clean one and maybe have a tech check it's health.
