WTF Is Up With TGP Traders?

This has only happened to me on TGP, and it has happened several times. Traders on TGP are very sneaky about acting like they're going to ship with you on the same day only to find out it ships the next day. It's like they want to be the last to ship so they can reroute the package or something. I think it's a douchebag move because it violates the agreement to cross-ship. Traders on Rig-Talk have always been good about physically shipping the same day, not just printing the label and acting like they dropped it off.

Are you sure they're being sneaky and it's not just them not having time to get to the post office?

Uh yeah, of course. I wouldn't bring it up if it wasn't a common practice. They know what they're doing, and it's obvious when you have conversations with them. I trade more on Rig-Talk than TGP, but it happens almost exclusively on TGP.

What are they doing that makes it seem sketchy and not just a timing issue? I've traded a handful of times and the items only wound up going out the same day once, but I never suspected anything was up so I'm curious if I should be looking for something.

Come on man, I see where you're going with this bullshit, passive-aggressive questioning. I already made it painfully obvious. If someone ships late, they say "I shipped late" or "couldn't make it on time," but someone who wants to be on the offensive, makes out like they're going to ship at the same time, but doesn't. They usually have excuses like "I don't know why it didn't get picked up," or "That's weird, I'll check on it" knowing damned well they didn't physically take it. Enough bullshit. If you don't like the premise of the thread then don't bother. I'm sure it's happened to plenty of other people.

Do you trade there enough to say it's common? If so you must be trading there a lot to make such a huge stereotype.

  wow... I asked you an actual question because I honestly wanted to know something. My apologies, won't happen again.

When you create a FedEx shipping label and add the recipient's email address for status notifications, it sends them a tracking # shipped notice as soon as you print the label. That could be at 6am, but you may not be able to get to the FedEx drop off until late in the afternoon. And even when it's picked up from there, it might not scan in for a while. I got a label creation email last week and it didn't scan in for three more days, which was kind of irritating. But when I've done expensive trades with strangers, I've never had a problem once - guns, guitars, amps, watches, you name it. Never ran across a dishonest one.

Sorry man, it sounded like you were just being annoying. All I'm saying is, if someone says they're going to ship the same day as you, then they need to do it. If they encounter a problem that delays the shipment then that can't be helped, but say something and don't act like you shipped it out if you didn't. I'm just pointing out my observations that on TGP this seems to happen half of the time, but rarely on Rig-Talk. Just trying to figure out why TGP traders seemingly have this tendency.

You're right. People should follow through and do what they say they are going to do. Like when someone says they are going to ship Fedex, they should ship Fedex and not UPS... ;)

All jokes aside, it is pretty annoying when you buy something or ship something out on a trade, only to find out that there is a delay in drop off or shipping for the item you traded for or bought. Super frustrating.

People should also get their facts right before trolling too. If FedEx was never promised or requested, but the same troll keeps harping on that, then it's just mindless trolling by an illiterate. Corrections aside, the frustration of delays is not the point here. It's the trust in the agreement which matters. The intent is to ship on the same day, so if the agreement of actually shipping that day is not followed through, then it's a violation of trust. It creates an uneasy feeling of "Why would the guy do that when I'm giving him all of my trust in this deal?" It makes you question their motives about why they've withdrawn trust in you even though you kept your end of the agreement.

It's like a preemptive withdrawal of trust or an offensive move so that they can keep the upper hand if they start to feel uneasy about the deal. What they want is to receive your item before you receive theirs. I find this behavior typical of people who know they haven't shipped something 100% as described. It's like they try to find fault in something you sent them so that when you receive their item that's not up to par, they can make a preemptive complaint. I'm not saying that's always the motive for it, but that's a common reason why people do it. Another reason is that they might have trader's remorse so they want to be able to evaluate the item, and if they don't like it, then they can stop shipment on their item and return yours for whatever reason they make up.

In any case, it lends an uneasy feeling when people behave this way in a trade. All it takes is a sincere intent to keep the agreement. There have been a couple of times when I got off of work late and couldn't make the pickup time, but it's never caused a problem because I stay on top of it and let the other guy know "Hey, I don't think I'll make today's pickup," or something. Then they know you dropped it off, but it's out of your possession and in the hands of the shipper.

I stopped online trading a long time ago. I was lucky and never had problems but I knew it was only a matter of time.

Local only for me. I live in a big city so I can usually buy sell or trade most items here.

Yeah, obviously we are putting considerable faith in a username of a person that we've never met when trading/buying on forum boards, but considering we cut out the middleman and do our due diligence I tend to believe that we come out ahead. I think the overwhelming majority of us are trade worthy and I would trust them. I still like the fact that I have a perfect ebay record with 100's of positive feedback, that goes along way towards my credibility.

This has happened to me over there more than a few times as well. Kind of wondered if it was some paranoid type of move, thought it was just my luck..Idk.

When I've traded here it seems that it's pretty common to take pics of the packing process also as the deal moves forward which is pretty cool. We set on a day to ship and usually pics of the label are next to be sent, and then both packages start tracking on the same day. Never had a problem but I've traded with guys that have been here a while.

I'm not saying the guys on TGP screw people over or anything. They're good traders. I don't think I've ever been screwed on a deal there. All I'm saying is that I've noticed it seems to be a common tactic. I'm sure people do that everywhere, including RT, but I just haven't really run into it here yet that I can remember. People usually let me know there's a delay or something, but at least 5 occasions on TGP, it's been this way of them trying to be the last person to ship. I'm just contemplating why that is, hence the discussion. However, some people would rather automatically take offense rather than try to discuss something for the sake of better understanding. Well, I supposed that's just the difference between intelligent and ignorant approaches to confronting topics.

If you get a bad feeling about anyone, you should end it there. Anyone I've traded with I've had a phone call with before agreeing to anything. It should take you about five seconds to ascertain if you're dealing with a flake, a con artist, a seasoned pro trader or an honest guy who just hasn't done it before and needs to talk it out with you. I have had stuff come up where I simply could not ship when I said I would, but it was never more than a day's delay. When you go into the garage and your car won't start, or you didn't realize the local FedEx Office closes at 6 instead of 9 and it's well after the main FedEx depot has closed, it's just not gonna happen that day.
