Have these really gone up this much or is this guy on the freaking pipe ? I could see 3k. 3500 tops because of rarity… also there is a guy selling one on reverb from Italy as well for 22k for anyone who has seen it. Again WTH?
Not much in the guitar world that I would spend 10000 plus dollars on. Guns yes.. guitars and gear no.

After seeing the X88 sell for 7K on Reverb, the X99 would definitely go for that or more since there are even fewer of those in the wild. If I'm not mistaken, new they were 4K and that was back in the 90s. Which was a shit ton of coin then. Since new cars were 10-15k(domestic).

People are just trying to cash in before Soldano reissues the rackmount preamp.
I've also seen the original SLO100 go for 7K before the new models came out.

I used rack gear back in the day, I'd like to see more rack gear being made, though I don't want another "1 ton" 12U on wheels again.

edit: I remember people with 18U or dual 10U racks I was happy when I got mine down to 8U IIRC.

I'm not surprised by this price. I was monitoring two Bogner Fishes listed on Reverb in Germany. 1 90's era and one RI. Neither had whale/cantrell mod. Both $7000+. I wonder what mine would fetch having the Cantrell mod.

The X88 is the reissue. The X99 is different; it's a collaboration with Tim Caswell who did the mod to the amp everyone wanted to steal from SIR in LA; the modded 71 Tremolo #39. It's a different circuit and has I believe, motorized controls.
