So I just got a copy of Project Gotham Racing 4 this morning, went to put the disc in my 360...and what do I see? Red ring of death! Yay!!!

Now I have to wait 3-4 weeks to get it fixed. But I get a whole 1 free month of Xbox live, so that makes it totally worthwhile.

It's just staggering how many of these pieces of shit break down like this. I've owned at least 30 or more consoles in my life and I've never had even a small problem with any of them. It's a shame that the 360 has the best games out right now (IMO), but the system is such a piece of trash. I'd be willing to bet money that it breaks again after I get it fixed. Ugh.

My 360 is good so far... but I am a bit worried about this happening.

I've had the same Sony Playstation 2 for (I can't remember) at least 5 years. That thing won't die.

Did you also notice that the 360 sounds like a jet engine when you're playing a game? The PS3 and Wii are dead silent. The 360 build quality is the equivalent of a Squier Strat.

You're angry with it right now....at this moment you are not in the right state of mind to rationally talk about an Xbox 360.

Nah, I do think it's the best system out right now. The only major flaw is how shitty the build quality is, and how often they break. I worked at an EB Games over the summer and the amount of broken 360's that people brought into us was insane. We had a shit ton of them in the back room at all times.

I have yet to have a problem with my launch 360. Although a few people I know have had to send theirs in. Maybe you shouldn't leave the 360 on your shag carpet...

I've never had my 360 on a carpet or even the floor. I don't think anything matters regarding the hardware failure. It's just a design flaw by Microsoft.

Mine broke before they announced the extended 3 year warranty, and my original manufacturers warranty had expired so it's been sitting in the basement.

Maybe I should dig it out and call the support line, I know it will be a painful experience already

My drummer had his hard drive go in the few couple of weeks he had it.

They will probably fix it for you. I bought mine used and it wasn't under warranty anymore. I had to call them 3 times though. The first time I got disconnected after they put me on hold. The second time I got some black lady with a bunch of attitude who refused to let me send in the system for a repair. I told her to fuck off and called a third time. Got an Indian lady who was hard to understand, but was actually helpful and nice.

I was kidding about the carpet, although it definately matters as to how much airflow/how hot the 360 gets. As with any electronics.

Check that out.

Yea, I've read that, also read that formatting the drive will resolve some ring of death issues. Matter of fact had a friend do that and it worked for him.

I was going to try it, but once you get the ring once, it's just going to keep coming back. If I get it back and it breaks again, I'm just gonna buy a used PS3.

IMHO the best games are still PC based, especially if you like FPS, Halo notwithstanding. That's why rather than drop a bunch of money on another console I opted to upgrade my PC. Games that cover both PC and console are much better on the PC ala Hitman, Far Cry, etc plus you get software you can't get on the console like CS, Quake, and Warcraft.

I've never been a fan of PC games, plus my computer sucks. It's way too expensive to keep upgrading a computer IMO. I do wish I had a great PC so I could play Crysis when it comes out. That game looks amazing.

Same thing happened to me on Sunday. Bought Halo 3 for my son and the game kept locking up. I had heard about some issues with the discs, so I exchanged the disc...same thing. Finally, on my 3rd attempt at a new disc, the ring of death came.

On the positive side, the x-box people were extremely efficient at handling the problem, but it's obvious they are covering up some major issue and trying not to piss people off for fear of public backlash.

Yeah, I actually got the ring yesterday morning when I went to play some Halo 3. I went to class and came back a few hours later and it worked again for whatever reason. I just knew the ring would come back though. :aww:

I've had mine for about a year now and not one problem, *knocks on wood*

I bought the little fan attachment for it. Cost about $15 or so. It adds a little noise but you can tell it helps keep the system a lot cooler.

Same here. No problems with mine.
