xbox360 red ring of death.

I just had to send mine in because of the stupid red ring. 33% failure rate compared to a 1% failure rate on PS3's. It only took me a week to get mine back after they received it though, which was really surprising. I know people who have waited up to 2 months to get theirs back.

Same here, although Microsoft was very responsive. In fact, they simply replaced my "red ring" unit with a completely new box and a free month of x-box live. We'll see how long this new one lasts.

Happened to mine as well, waiting for the packing box to come so I can ship if off for warranty repair

I think I'm going to get the cheaper ps3 model. Does it have blue ray as well?

I got the ring of death the day before halo 3 came out. I actually went out and bought a new system. so now i have two systems.

(yes, it has blu-ray)

i take it that was a silly question, eh?

Very, but it's fine since we all aren't video game nerds who have no life (aka me). :)

we have two 360's in my house for me and my kid and both got the ring of death, i sent the first one back to get repaired and it took about a month to get it back, so i get halo 3 for my son and hes all excited and after 1 hour the new 360 i just got broke down and i called microsoft and they said i needed to wait another 30 days for another one, so i got pissed and traded it in broken towards a halo special edition 360 and the store paid me 70 bucks for the broken one towards it.
then i finally got around to sending out my other broken 360 with the ring of death and im still waiting for a new one, hopefully it will come soon.

i was so pissed, whats the odds of me getting 2 with the ring of death and 1 that wouldnt read the disks, that 3 broken 360's i had in a months time.
i play my ps3 way more now.

The RRoD only applies to regular 360s. It is basically 100% due to overheating problems do to a weak factory fan and weak heatsink. The Elite 360 incorporates a new board with 2 heatsinks and a "slightly" more powerful fan. If you don't want the RRoD, spend a little extra for an Elite 360. The new versions of regular 360's are better though.

The smaller form factor 65nm 360's that are coming will generate even less heat I heard, unless the elites aleady have those....

You shouldn't have to pay extra to get a model that wont break on you, how stupid is that? By the way my friend has gotten the rrod 3 times

False. The problem is compounded by the x-clamp design they use. The circuit boards in the 360s are bent where the GPU is. The stock x-clamp simply does not provide enough pressure to keep a solid connection. When you start adding heat into the mix, the solder gets hot, and the connection breaks loose. Sure, the fan and heatsink help with some of the cooling issues, but even the Elites are RRoDing.

Edit: And proof that the Elites still RRoD
