I honestly have more fun playing old games with simple graphics that are definitely nowhere near my favorites, than basically any game today. That's my complaint with how things are. The best games are quickly forgotten, because they don't really have being fun in mind. They have holding you over until the shiny new thing comes out next week in mind.

Look at how quickly people moved on from the ZOMG HALO 3 TEH BEZT EVAR BETTER THAN THE LAST BEZT EVAR THING to ZOMG COD4 TEH BEZT EVAR SHITS ALL OVER HALO 3 FORMER TEH BEZT EVAR BETTER THAN ALL PREVIOUS TEH BEZT EVARZ! And I can absolutely guarantee you that there will be several more next month.

And let's not forget that the older games were both harder and required more imagination. Both of those lead to a more enjoyable gaming experience.

Ditto. Vive le SNES! :D

SNES was one of the most amazing consoles ever - the PSX being the most amazing.

You're kidding...right?

Zelda
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy 3
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros 3
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Contra
Double Dragon 2

That's just a small list for NES....

Back in the day, those games did have great graphics. You can't compare any NES and Xbox 360 game graphically now though. That makes no sense whatsoever.

By that logic, you can't compare the PS2/Xbox/GC to the PS3/360/Wii. You can't compare any of them to the SNES/Genesis, etc. etc.

Yes, but also there wasn't as much investment into it. Most of the developers were focused on gameplay. Hell, if you look at the actual devs in credits of most games they mostly relate to graphics or engine crap these days.

You can compare the Wii with the PS2/Xbox/GC because the graphics look exactly the same.

I used to love the graphics of SNES side scroller's like Stars Wars, and the gameplay was killer. :)

When the Nintendo 64 came out, it almost seemed like there was a reduction in the quality of the graphics sacrificed for the move to 3D vs the 2D graphics of the SNES.....

People loved the N64, but I never cared much for it. All it had was shitty "64" ports for the most part. It had maybe 10 good games total. Dreamcast had about 10 good games, too. The PSX and SNES had shit tons of great games. The PS2 had a good selection, but not as big as the PSX/SNES of yesteryear.

Great graphics just add the the experience of a game. KOTOR on Xbox didn't have great graphics but i still loved both of them. There's plenty of shitty games out there but that's the fault of whoever is developing the game.

But the WII just doesn't have the ability of the other 2 systems. I don't it was developed to compete with them anyway. They went into a different direction and if you look at the sales then they did accomplish what they set out to do.

HAHAHA These threads make me loff.  I bought my SNES back in '92 and it still works as good as the day I pulled it out of the box. Its been beat on pretty good and has got about gazillion hours on it and never been fixed.

Well, so far Super Mario Galaxy is getting better reviews than Assassin's Creed and COD4

No way. The SNES moved to isometric 3D long before the end of its time. Even so, a bunch of the best SNES games still looked like later NES games. For example, there's barely any difference between Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3. Gradius III really wasn't different from the previous NES ones. EarthBound, probably my favorite game, LITERALLY looks like an NES game, as the graphic style is identical to the original, unreleased version for the NES. I think it's reasonable to say that all of those and many more could have been just as good of NES games.

It just didn't matter at that time. I don't recall ever going, "Wow, the SNES is awesome, it looks so much better than the NES!" That sort of thinking just didn't exist.

Mario games are Mario games. It doesn't take much to make a good Mario game - I hate the damn things and I think they're boring. People will love it and buy it because it's more of the same, which is fine.

Galaxy is probably as good as the Wii is ever going to look, which is also fine.

The Wii is doing its own thing. The only real "competition" is between the PS3 and 360.

Scroll down a little bit on that page. It is also getting great reviews, but Galaxy's are a little better :D

Now, don't get me wrong, I think that Assassin's Creed looks awesome, as does COD4, and I will definitely be getting a 360 in the future, but the Wii can make some good games too.

That Mario game looks pretty cool, but I could care less about it. The Wii is just like every Nintendo system since the 64. Maybe one great game every few months. I can't stand the retarded "controller" either. The most overrated system ever.

I don't really know much about it, but I'd venture to guess that Super Mario Galaxy is the first ACTUAL Wii game, so I'm not surprised. It sure as hell took them long enough.

I don't know wtf they plan to do from here on out, though. The only other big one I can think of that's coming reasonably soon is Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which won't be out until February, at best, and that's no "true" Wii game.

You can't put a game like Assassin's Creed, which is totally new type of thing, against Mario Galaxy which has a tried and true formula that works. They're completely different types of games.

You can put whatever the hell you want against whatever the hell you want if you're going to compare things that aren't nearly identical. They're different. We get it.

I don't see how Assassin's Creed is any newer than Super Mario Galaxy, though. I don't really think either one is exactly wildly new and different, but even so, I'd probably me more likely to argue otherwise. At least you PLAY SMG differently, from what little I have seen.
