XTS Midrange Mod GE-7 USED prices are insane

It's great that the current Made in Malaysia ones can be modded with this as well as the MIJ and MIT. What I don't get are the USED PRICES. When in stock on the XTS website, they are brand new $250. If you supply them your own GE-7 it is the mod cost of $119 plus return shipping (probably around $10-$15).

Listings on Reverb, forum sites, GC for USED are $350-$400. WTF! SMH

I bought an open box/used current one Made in Malaysia for well under $100 to send in for the mod ($119). For $219 plus shipping both ways, I'm looking at under $250. There is currently about a 6 week turnaround.

Holy crap, I modded both my MIJ and MIT myself for maybe $10;
the 2 main things to tackle is replace the 1uF (IIRC) tantalum caps (the ones that look like yellow/brownish drops) and replace the IC's with something low(er) noise; TL072 is fine. NE5532P is real fine, but draws a bit more current.
Of course I used IC sockets, so no soldering on 8 legs of an IC, with a chance to overheat them.

And there's a chance there were some JRC4558Ds in there, so you can sell those for a premium to TS9 lovers. :giggle:

I had one on a board they built me several years ago. I never used it to be honest. I didn’t like the bands that they chose, the EQ bands.

i noticed that too. That mod can't be that intensive can it? you're just changing values of stuff right? is it the new faceplate with the new frequencies that is making it so expensive? just put a $50 31 band pa eq in your loop and call it a day lol. all the mid frequencies you want to play with and more!

They are very expensive but they are incredible they really bring an amplifier to life! I had mine for sale a couple weeks ago and pulled the ad down just because I don't know that I want to sell it. They have been out of stock on their website for over 2 years I don't know why they even have a price for buying one new.

Your price wasn't ridiculous. Because you pulled the listing, I decided to buy a used GE-7 and send it to XTS for the mod. Cost is in the ballpark of yours. What I don't get is those listings priced at $350-400. There's one on TGP for $400. Crazy!

Do they sprinkle these in fairy dust or something? For that price just get a BOSS GE-10 and go old school. Those have the magic. Who are the big players of these? I think Steve Stevens was for a while but he is a bit like Lynch and will peddle just about anything they cut him in on. His pedalboard is constantly changing. That means it is a bunch of Nashville guys singing the praises of a couple part swaps on a GE-7. They always go on about "high figh" sounding and " less noise" but I don't find my GE-7 to be that noisy stock.

the frequencies they picked are kind of the "magic" spots for guitar and bass when mixing which is why i assume they picked them, id like to have one to tweak in my loop instead of eq'ing in post

I have one and it’s not all that great TBH. It is a lot quieter than the stock GE7 but it’s not really a musical sounding EQ. The Boss PQ-4 is a much better pedal IMO. Adds a nice flavor and some harmonic content. My only gripe is it doesn’t have enough input gain to drive the front end of an amp the way I want it to.

People with money that wanted now and don't want to wait.

never under estimate this market. you as a seller, can and should exploit those people at all costs.
reminds me of when my ex wife was a manager at game stop, and told me all about the ps3 pre sale. i stood in line one day for an hour with losers who wanted to chat me up about gaming (i don't game....thats for losers and children), so that i could flip some system i knew NOTHING about, a month later at xmas for twice the money. i'm sad it was limit one, cause that was a $400 pay day. turned out to be a $600 pay day, cuz i held off selling for a few weeks after the initial wave. gotta be low key wise out there folks... get yours, exploit capitalism, greed, and consumerism for your own need all day.

I just run my stock one at unity gain and boost it with an OD that also has a lower level setting. There's some noisebut nothing my SUN gate can't wipe out and nothing like jacking the GE-7 level slider alone.

I have 2 silver label Taiwan GE-7 pedals that I designate as A & B, but only use the A pedal because to me it just sounds better than the B.

Strange I know, but I just can't get the same tone with the B unit. The A pedal seems smoother and has a more pleasing freq interpretation for some reason.

A friend told me this when I was researching them. He said the stock Boss GE-10 killed it.... but the GE-10 footprint is like 4x it.
