That was an ADA MP-1 they can sound really good if dialed in right.

The ADA was the Axe-FX of it's time, everybody had one. I don't think it was the ADA that sounded great, it was the producer in the studio getting a great sound. Most every ADA i heard live sounded like crap...IMHO.
On their own they were ok. I paired one up with a Sonic Maximizer and that helped it a lot imo. Used that for years!

I read on some other site that in Wolf Marshall's XYZ tab book there is an interview with Marc and he says the first record was a Jose Marshall, an early Boss OD-1, and 25 watt green back Celestions on 4 songs, and a different Marshall with a Roland GP8 in front of it for the others where more distortion and overdrive were used (not Inside Out) along with eq and slight phasing.

That tone is totally Jose modded Marshall. My Jose nails that tone, even without a boost.

Few weeks back I made a quick attempt at that tone with my 2204 (boosted) on another recent XYZ thread...

+1

Totally agree with Dan here. You can just hear it and his mods can easily nail these tones (which I love).

Absolutely 100%

My Henning Cherry Bomb gets it without a boost as well... Here is a bit of Curt (Chubtone) noodling like that "Face Down In The Gutter" intro:

Chubtone Cherry Bomb Clip

This was the prototype - the final circuit has even more gain if you need it...

Since this thread started I have attempted this tone with a few amps and the ones that I got 95% there were a 2010 Quickrod and an Ada mp1. Of course the Ada as a preamp into the power section of the QR was good but a little redundant. I feel like a B+ QR with a small block/ creamback 75 Splawn cab would be the ticket.

My friends band opened for them on the Hungry tour.
The guitar player had already been replaced by Tony Marcus
The singer told me on the Hungry album they used a Morin Burn
channel preamp mixed with an SLO. They were still using his rig.
It was a Blue, burn channel preamp, into a Marshall poweramp with his added
effects loop. And a boss overdrive, the yellow one. And he was using a Duncan Custom.
I have that whole rig, except the boss pedal, and it kills.
Morin did some monster mods, I wish he was still doing them.
Steven.

I busted this disc out over the holidays!! Good ole hairmetal at it's best with killer riffs and solos!!

I should not have listened to this clip. I have never heard it before, it was AWESOME!!! GAS is extremely high. Man, wish I could play like Curt.

That's also a Morin modded marshall used for Slaughters
second album. Check it out, killer tone.
