I can’t imagine many conversations more cringey than these two douchenozzles together in a room.

For me, this dude is just so interesting to listen to. I think he would probably test off the charts on a standardized IQ test. In the states, people with that intellectual level are shoved into the sciences - medicine, law, etc. All that academia sort of ‘leashes’ or ‘limits’ one’s intellect. To hear someone who is intellectually brilliant who was allowed to just follow his artistic interest is fascinating to me.

In flames and the Gates were given grants to get equipment, rehearsal space , and recording but their government. And really paid off . Helped in being successfully citizens

I still like his music . You don’t like his old stuff ?
I love the tone he got and his playing on the early records but as far as songs etc It doesn’t do too much for me. He has a few bangers for sure but not enough where I want to listen to an album.

I remember hearing that first song...Hot on your heels...then Alcatraz..then the amazing and timeless Rising Force...man he was flame throwing compared to anyone else...and the classical tilt was fresh too...but to me he didn't really grow as a player since then...not saying that's bad, but It just seems like he stuck with the original plan.

I kind of understand him more from this interview. Actually would be cool to have a beer or two with him and hear some more of the war stories.

The other benefit from him for me was he turned me on to Al Dimeola.

I wonder if he would've had even more success in his early career if Hot on Your Heels had been a standalone track, instead of an intro; like how Eruption is its own standalone track. ? maybe he would've caught more traction.

I don't know. He made a pretty big splash with Rising Force. His playing being so unique at the time gave him a lot of attention. Difference is Van Halen had the type of songs that easily crossover to mainstream success and grow past the wow felt by guitar players. Yngwie's songs still only appealed to mostly guitar players and/or metal fans. And then only a subset of metal fans at that.

edit...Just listened to HOYH again (been a long time) and found myself getting bored with his intro...lol That's what's great about Eruption. It's tells a little story and then gets out. Doesn't overstay it's welcome, actually left you wanting more.
