He uses a 1.5mm pick and .008-.048 strings tuned down a half step (including a dropped C# axe) ?

That forces you with the scallop to pick so damn light.

I'll say this for YJ...unlike some other endorsement whores I get the impression that he feels truly honored to have a sig strat and Marshall.

Agreed. I think he has matured as he has gotten older and is a better person than 20 yrs ago.

People that are confident in their abilities can come off as snotty, and people that have English as their second lang. will phrase sentences differently than most. I can see where that got him in trouble.

Like him or hate him, he is one of the best in the world.

Saw him on the Trilogy tour, he opened for Triumph, Rick Emmitt had a hard act to follow, Emmitt did an acoustic solo, best i've ever seen cept for Alex Lifeson.

I had never seen anyone play like Yngwie that night and not many since.

At the end of the show he stuff the Strat down his pants, headstock first, which i thought was odd.

Nice, I was at that show. Whoa..I didn't realize he uses 8's! I don't feel like a whimp using my 9's anymore.

Fuck I just watched Billy Gibbon's Rig Rundown and he uses 7's!

Woooooowwwwwwwwwww... I was wondering why a piece of the wall of China was in Florida while I was in Google Earth. All this time its actually been Yngwie's wall of Marshalls... I should have known

bah, it was mostly all endorsement placement. C'mon 'becca, you gotta push harder in an interview than that.

I agree...it wasn't informative at all.
Yeah,

Rebecca is usually my one of the bests at pushing for information too. Still enjoyed it though, thanks for posting.

That's a lot of Marshalls!!! And Rebecca is damn fine!!!

I thought she gave a better interview than most and I think she surprised YJM with some of her questions.

he can be offputting at times..but i'd be a liar if i said i can't name him among my influences...as weak as my skills are at that, anyways...

he seemed pretty upbeat and willing to talk here, i give him props for that. he obviously knows his gear and i like that he was willing to talk to her, and not talk down to her. i appreciate also, that he seems pretty tolerant in this video of questions that he probably has gotten a trillion times since 198?whatever!
anyone else notice the BLS shirt on the rack behind his axes? :)
all in all, a good watch.

That was my impression too... he was cool, and look sober
Not his biggest fan, but can't deny his talent!
HIs first three albums are classics!

I agree, I think that may be one thing he is humble about. His endorsements with fender and marshall are well earned.

8- 48 strings and tuned half a step down.... as someone already mentioned. POOSAY! lol I take back what I said about his vibrato.. ok o it is still incredible but light ass strings account for a lot of that. Also interesting to see the use of 250 k pots... strats are damn harsh with 500's in most cases.

I would think lighter strings on a scalloped neck would be really hard to control, the dude is a freak.

Should have mentioned his signature Sharpie

Dude, have you ever played a guitar setup like that? If anything, it shows just how much touch, finesse and control the guy has. I played a buddy's YJM strat with 9's in Eb and it took me awhile to get used to it because it was so easy to over bend, make things go sharp etc etc.

Poosay you say? not even close...

On stage, no less. Playing the kind of stuff he pulls off. With the wall of marshalls. It's actually beyond incredible when you think about it...

99.9% probably couldn't even play a single lick in tune in that scenario with that guitar.

Now now, let's not get our collective panties in a knot. I'm not seriously calling him a pussy I am just having fun with the notion that he plays really light strings. That said, his gauge set is varied and a 48 on top is usually found in what, sets of 11's? So clearly it works for him and his vibrato is great on the lower strings too. He's got great vibrato, end of story. To your other point, yes I have played 9's at least in dropped tuning and apart from being easier to bend , I had absolutely no problems keeping pitch or doing anything any differently. Never tried 8's but can't imagine i'd have too hard a time being consistent with practice because I don't play with feel alone, I listen to what is coming out of the amp. Has nothing to do with finesse but more with habit and practice on gear you are familiar with.I bet if you played your buddy's strat for 2 hours you'd have it under control no problem.
