You have $1000 to build a rack rig...what would be in it?

quite a few of you are recommending the ADA MP1, but has anyone been able to emulate both the classic as well as the modern metal tones the OP indicated?
It has enough gain to do anything. The voicing may not be ideal for modern metal but thats easily fixed with an additional EQ.

Easily, but find an EQ that you like,MXR 6 band,or the 10 band,i prefer parametrics,Rane, they're quiet but you can get heavy
with an ADA and EQ no problem. And yes there's enough gain to do whatever, once you have your tone dialed in,back off the
gain,just a little.

Carvin Quad-X Preamp, 4 channels, 9 preamp tubes with switchable reverb, switchable 4 fx loops and a master stereo fx loop with a switchable 5 band graphic eg on board and great noise gate. Best value for about $450

RT2/50

Effect unit

I had an ADA MP1 and MP2 and would take the Carvin Quad-X any day over them.

Rocktron Piranha (versatile and quiet) or Hafler/Bogner Triple Giant (better tone and noisier)
Rocktron Intellifex
Marshall 9100
Rocktron Midi-Mate

 Rocktron Pro G.A.P.

Forgot about that one... may have to change my recommendation (and save a bit of $$$).

Good call...

Got one down in the basement studio, hadn't fired it up in 15 years or so, and it actually worked! For a SS pre, its not half bad

I'm really inexperienced with preamps. What's out there with a thick, clear distortion? There's those Engl e530s, but I've heard people mention that they can't get too thick, although I dig the pristine Engl sound. I guess right now, I would use the POD HD500 since I already own one, and a Mesa 50/50. I'm wanting another tube setup, mainly a 5150, but getting into a rack rig could be interesting.

My Triaxis could have filled this request, but only in conjunction with a SimilClass Two:90 or something simular. 3 Rackspaces of total crushing terror.

Maybe, the market has rebounded, but 2 years ago, black 2150's were going for $800 and below.

even more recent than that.... seen one got for $700 about 6 months ago.
