I didn’t ‘hate’ it… I think one‘s reaction to current Yngwie really hinges on if they were around when he first broke in the early 80s. His work with Alcatrazz and on the first ‘Rising Force’ album was technically and harmonically leagues ahead of anything else anyone had ever heard. His tone back then was so pure and uncluttered. His technique was razor sharp. He definitely pushed the boundary in a way that it hadn’t budged since the first VH album. I hate that he has become sort of a caricature of himself. I genuinely believe a little less of everything at this point would work so much better. But dam, the dude has absolute physical command of the instrument and he is definitely an icon.

I love Yngwie, but here is my critique:

I wish he would drop the “rock star” look and just throw on a T-shirt and jeans, maybe some sneakers and just play. Maybe even cut his hair and show everyone that he doesn’t need to dress and look like it’s 1985 anymore. He still has the chops, although he should slow down a little bit so we can enjoy the playing more and less of the flash.
