Your Dream Amp

Separate tone controls for each channel and more immediate channel switching would pretty much make my Mark III my dream amp. As it is, it's close enough now.

Mesa IIC+ lead.

Marshall JMP with a Tube Screamer for crunch rhythm.

Fender Twins for clean and pushed rhythm sounds.

DONE

Basically a Bogner Ecstasy with less compression, a bit less gain overall, and a switch to get the blue and red channels reacting more like a straight Jose Marshall or a really smooth Boogie in addition to the standard Bogner tones.

W.

I already had that amp. It was an XTC Classic with an OCD or Plexitone in front (Blue channel, Plexi mode) for the Jose stuff.

My ENGL Invader 100 is pretty close to my dream amp - I wish I could blend CH2 with CH3 to get those marshall-ish mids into that tight but scooped sound

Crazy thing is, I own many of these "dream amps"... an Egnater MOD100 and modded modules. Wait, that's six channels, nevermind. ;)

It is funny that this discussion is even happening! Your post is the truth. I discovered modular a couple years ago and have not had any GAS for a Bogner or Dumble, etc. since doing so.

A Deliverance 120 with standard footswitchable less/more modes, a footswitchable fx loop, and a footswitchable solo boost.

That would be perfection to me.

I honestly have no idea what I want from an amp anymore. :(

Right there with ya.

Even though the GAS-related musical chairs that I've played is a fraction of what some guys on the boards have been through... it's been enough to make me realize that there is NO holy grail/perfect amp that's gonna make me drool every day for the rest of my life. Every great tube amp I've owned or had in my possession is scratched certain itches for a time, but sooner or later I got bored. So now that I'm aware of that, I plan to fantasize less about that next big amp that's gonna be the "be-all, end-all", and just enjoy what I have. Keeping in-mind that there will be days when I'm not all that inspired and others where I am. It's the nature of the beast and since coming to terms with that, I just don't have GAS that bad any more. Just some minor curiosity. I'm ready to be mostly monogamous. No matter what I'm plugged into, I'm always gonna sound just like me. And I'm cool with that...

One part tongue-in-cheek, one part truth. :D I've A/B'd some of my modded modules (Salvation, Jaded Faith, Voodoo Amps, Sacred Groove) to the real deals. I'm not sure I could tell a lot of them apart from the real deal without my eyes. These guys do some phenomenal work in recreating tones. Marshall, Bogner, Soldano, Matchless, Vox, ENGL, Peavey, Mesa, Dumble, Orange, et cetera... all at my fingertips for a fraction of the cost. I know people will say "get a Kemper/Axe II" and from what I've heard, they're good. I've also heard they don't react like an amp as far as feel, volume pot response, in room amp characteristics, but for recording they're good. The modular line is all tube and all good. Getting off my soapbox, carry on. ;)

I can't see any other amp surpassing my tonal and functional needs that I have in my Gower Killer Kali++. Hence why I call her 'Frankenstein'... So many great features rolled into one amazing amp. She's a masterpiece

But yeah, since we are talking.. I'd take Suhrs clean, Friedman/Fortin blend ch2, ii+c or SLO lead, Suhrs parellel ss loop, all with there own eq's of course :D ... and midi capable.

ROCKMAN Clean/chorus/echo (modular or XPR) -- Hughes & Kettner Puretone is a STRONG contender, though.
Splawn Quick Rod EL34 Ch1 OD2 for crunch/rhythm.
Splawn Nitro KT88 OD2 for leads.

Now THAT'S a party...

Dunno exactly... but I HOPE it's the one I have on the way...

I've been through a metric shit-ton looking for THE one.

1. Vox AC30 Top Boost
2. Bogner XTC Blue channel
3. Diezel VH4 Ch. 3

Only amp I 've heard that I would want is the Rhodes Colossus. Awesome amp

Meh you can truly drive yourself crazy looking for one amp that can do it all. :D

My XTC classic gets me more than close enough for me though.

Truth is, LOTS of legendary guys have somehow managed to get good clean, rhythm and lead tones live for a long time though.

Whether you're rolling back your volumes on a marshall for clean and hitting a boost for lead or running multiple amps or using a 3 (or 4) channel amp, it can be done a lot of different ways. Even (gasp) pedals into a clean/crunchy amp for all your gain sounds. Problem is what are you going to do when you finally get the range of tones you want/need and you end up playing the same licks as always? ;)
