It is always interesting how people use different delay pedals or rack delays..or otherwise, for different uses. From "The Edge" to a clap back fast delay, everyone seems to have a different use for this effect. What is your favorite delay? I will say, my 3 favorites are the Ibanez DE-7 (echo mode), and a regular Boss DD-3. I also like a Red Witch Violetta. What are your favorite Delays and how do you use them?

My favorite delay is the KORG DL8000R. Yeah, it’s a rack piece, but the delays sound incredible...right up there with the TC 2240.

Damage Control Timeline

Tube buffered, Stereo, MIDI controllable, and sounds absolutely insane. Mine will never leave me.

Strymon Dig. I set it and forget it. Sounds amazing, easy and intuitive. It's been on my board about 2 years and it ended my search. I like it for adding just a hint of delay to my overall sound.

AKAI Headrush
Boss DD3
Catalinbread Echorec
EQD Dispatch Master
Ibanez DE7
Maestro EP3
Roland RE301
Strymon DIG
TC 2290
Zoom MS70-CDR

ALL ON
Let the missles fly
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Kind of a tough choice... what I need it to do is the primary factor when I'm picking put a delay, but these are the few that I keep coming back to, in no particular order...

1. TC 2290 - Digital perfection, great modulation, very flexible... and all the cool routing things it will do, too.

2. Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man - just delay time available to do some really cool short/medium delays. The modulation is simply angelic. Such a beautiful sound!

3. Eventide Eclipse (H3000DSE, GTR4000) - Yeah, I know it's not just a delay, but what it can do with delays... band delays, reverse shifters... and so much more. Any of the three (Eclipse, H3000, 4000), even the Space pedal. Not just a delay, but a soundscape limited only by the imagination.

4. Maestro Echoplex EP-3 - Nothing sounds like tape, and the ability to make it wow and flutter and all the other tape goodness. Just hard to leave this off the list.

I have others, some I really like, some too specific to use for more than one sound, but the four above... those are the ones I will not do without.

OK, honorable mention does to the old Boss DM-3. That was my first delay (bought it new). I've had so much fun with it over the years, and it's still fun to play around with. Not particularly versatile, not always the best sounding, but it's just fun enough to inspire as much as any of my earlier picks.

edited for spelling

Forgot about this one. Good mention!

never had the pleasure of enjoying some of the fabled rack-mounted units mentioned above, but I've had tons of delay pedals. Timeline for me personally is the tits. Sounds great, tons of features, easy to use, relatively small footprint.

I have to say Im still quite fond of the TC G-systems delays and effects. I wish TC would step up and introduce an updated modern version. But, with that being said they still kick ass as an all-inclusive rig-controller.

Providence Chrono Delay and the Free the Tone Flight Time, both are awesome. Sound great.

Both are easy to use and pretty much sound great no matter how they are set. Plus, the Flight Time looks super cool. I am not a fan of pink or pink'ish stuff, but the Chrono Delay is so good that I deal with a big ugly pink pedal that's a tremendous eye sore.

2290. Quit using effects when i gave up rack gear. Never got into pedals.

Any true stereo quad tap delays BESIDES the TC electronics G- Force and Korg DL8000R...

TC ELECTRONIC Flashback X4

It does everything very easily without coloring your sound, and serves up 3 simple to hit presets.

Source audio nemesis for me. Small footprint, a tonne of different sounds, midi control and an editor which gives even more possibilities!!
