For the Anthrax and SOD/MOD, didn't they use Marshalls with Rat pedals?

Stock Marshalls with a TC Booster in front.

Exodus used Marshalls with Rat pedals in the earlier days. I think through Fabulous Disaster.

It's Loverboy!! I know...I know...

But I've always thought this is a great cranked Marshall tone on the intro....nice and meaty. Listen up to 1:00

Totally agree here. I was just listening to this tune last week in my car and had a similar thought. Sometimes you hear tones and you can just tell they sound like the amp is pushed to the brink.
For sure. Every time I hear this intro I wonder what type of Marshall that is...late 70's master volume, older non-master...and if it's boosted or not.
I think it sounds great....too bad it's Loverboy. :D

+1 on Balls The Wall! Two of my favorite were "High And Dry" and (gulp) "Don't Say No" by (gulp again) Billy Squier. I'm a sucker for the earlier non-master cranked Marshall tones. Honorable mention to Cinderella as well

Some choices from the heavier side of things. Pretty sure these are all Marshalls.

With Spanish translation for extra lulz!

I know at one point Anthrax was using Mesa Mark series amps. I have a magazine with an interview of Dan Spitz and he was talking about how Kirk Hamett turned him onto Mesa Boogie. The tone on Madhouse sounds like a Mark III with the 750 HZ slider set low.

Yep, cool thread, and some great tones, but quite a few of those weren't Marshalls, stock or modded.

Still some great stuff

Just what I was thinking.

Here.

Tried to find the original studio version. This will have to do.

cool thread!

For me Balls to the Wall is the ultimate tone. That whole album is filled with great glorious gobs of gain. I put it on all the time to listen to Wolf - despite the objections of those around me. Wagener stated on the thread he did here that it was Marshalls (I believe he said 3 in parallel) with MXR dist+.

Let's not forget Cinderella guys! Classic dimed plexis or boosted Marshalls.

Loudness - Rock & Roll Crazy Nights

Raven - Break the Chain

Raven - Take Control (Live 1984) can't find the album ver. on YT.

Y&T - Mean Streak

Ratt - The Morning After

Ratt - In Your Direction

Holland - Basics of the Bullet

My $0.02

Jackyl had some classic Marshall tones going on.
Cry Of Love and Brother Cane too.

Check out this lead tone, just on the brink of feeding back, just the most awesome:

Empty Rooms, Gary's mid eighties Marshall setup had it all. The main amp being his incredible 1972 Super Bass, slaved off to two or three other Super Lead heads. This concert and tour had one of the top three Gary Moore tones of all time imho.

Also part of the massive tone is Gary using Dean Markley strings, Light Top/Heavy Bottom set .10 through 0.52 with very high action in standard tuning and a top mount Floyd Rose Trem, EMG 81, ect.

My interview with the great Neil Carter primarily about that great era 1987-89, Wild Frontier, After The War. This was to be prophetic as all my dubbed DVD's and CD's that I sent to Neil to review those years, he ended up watching them with Gary and they used them in the rehearsals for the 2010 final Celtic Rock tour.

This rare promo print from the After The War era, featuring the late great Cozy Powell, Neil Carter signed it and had Gary sign it for me while they were on the last tour, this I will always treasure..
