Totally agree here. I was just listening to this tune last week in my car and had a similar thought. Sometimes you hear tones and you can just tell they sound like the amp is pushed to the brink.
I think it sounds great....too bad it's Loverboy.

+1 on Balls The Wall! Two of my favorite were "High And Dry" and (gulp) "Don't Say No" by (gulp again) Billy Squier. I'm a sucker for the earlier non-master cranked Marshall tones. Honorable mention to Cinderella as well

I know at one point Anthrax was using Mesa Mark series amps. I have a magazine with an interview of Dan Spitz and he was talking about how Kirk Hamett turned him onto Mesa Boogie. The tone on Madhouse sounds like a Mark III with the 750 HZ slider set low.

For me Balls to the Wall is the ultimate tone. That whole album is filled with great glorious gobs of gain. I put it on all the time to listen to Wolf - despite the objections of those around me. Wagener stated on the thread he did here that it was Marshalls (I believe he said 3 in parallel) with MXR dist+.

Empty Rooms, Gary's mid eighties Marshall setup had it all. The main amp being his incredible 1972 Super Bass, slaved off to two or three other Super Lead heads. This concert and tour had one of the top three Gary Moore tones of all time imho.

This was to be prophetic as all my dubbed DVD's and CD's that I sent to Neil to review those years, he ended up watching them with Gary and they used them in the rehearsals for the 2010 final Celtic Rock tour.
