I'm planing to build a super strat. I will install for sure a Floyd Rose. Would like to have you opinion about to install it on the top of the body or in a recessed cavity in the body. What would you choose and why?

Thanks

Recessed so you can get more range out of pitch up bending, that and lower action. Not a fan of non recessed trems.

Could be wrong here but I think he means recessed but flush to the wood for dive only..tone, dtuna, stability etc..like the evh stuff. Love to get an Anderson made with that set up.

Well mean like an Anderson with a cavity the same size than the Floyd under it!

Need to clarify something here, you can pull up on a floyd rose regardless if it's recessed or top mounted DEPENDING on the guitar. If the guitar has an angled neck pocket like a Les Paul (any guitar with a tune o matic style bridge) then it can be top mounted AND you can pull up because the bridge has to sit higher on the body. If the guitar has a straight neck pocket like a strat or most trem type guitars then it needs a recessed bridge cavity to pull up because it needs to sit lower.

It's basically a preference. The guitar can be set up equally as well flush or recessed. If you want to be able to pull up and raise the pitch as well as dive, you will probably want a recessed floyd. I like mine flush to the body because it is more stable as far as tuning goes and if you break a string in the middle of a song the guitar will stay in tune.

Why don't you just buy a guitar with a floyd already installed?

IMO I cannot tell a difference in tone and I think it breaks down to if you need to do drop d tuning tuning or are concerned about doing out of tune if you break a string during a gig. I have owned several Ibanez JEMS and Music Man Axis and ultimately I sounded like me...

I have two guitars with top mount floyds and I have them both setup where you can pull up a whole step. I have owned guitars that have it both ways and I like the top mount better.

I'm playing an american strat and I suppose the neck is straight (do not have angle pocket) and I like the feeling of it. Do you think I'll see any difference in the feeling if I have an angle pocket?

Thanks for all the infos guys.
