I can't believe I forgot about it. I've said many times that IMHO it's the definitive rock album of our time. Tones, mixing and production don't get better than that IMHO, and then there're the songs...

There's NO way to narrow it down to 3.

Indeed, the '80s gave us sooo much great stuff. A top-10 list would've been much-easier, and even then, we'd be leaving a bunch of stuff out.

Dayum Steven, I saw Purple Rain 7 times in the cinema. Only film I've paid to see more than 3 times.

Bought all of Prince's albums. Predicted in 1980 that he and Michael Jackson would be the biggest male pop stars ever. I think I nailed that one. Everyone laughed at me for saying this back in the day, of course. Incredible that they're both dead so young too.

His rhythm guitar work is among the best. It's right up there with James Brown, Sly & The Family Stone, Parliament. I never liked guitar solos very much. I refused to play them for several years. But eventually went back to doing them.

I actually like Diary better but Blizzard took me from just wanting to be a rhythm guitarist to doing it all. I pretty much love all the early Dokken stuff and my favorite Lynch moment is "The Hunter" but Lynch was just unleashed on Back for the Attack

Diary is better than Blizzard and The Hunter is Dokkens best song .... Viv is off the fucking charts great on the first 2 Dio albums

Agree about the Dio early albums. Vivian Campbell was great on them.
I had just joined a band when Holy Diver came out and we covered pretty much the entire album.

Yep! When someone says any other decade was great I just laugh at them. Hard rock alone was phenomenal in the 80s. You open it up to Prince, Tom Petty, U2, etc. it is just crazy.

my #3: Iron Maiden - Powerslave

and sometimes MOP has to play switchies with Back in Black.

Appetite is my solid #1, best album of the 80's. It's so layered, versatile...I've referred to Guns as the Beatles of the 80's more than once. Swearing in the church for some, gospel for others. I stand by it. The way how Slash and Izzy do their own thing (instead of 2 rhythm players doing a Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V on their riffing) and it interconnects so perfectly...symbiotic, even.
