That's cool but Tim Henson would make a better muppet than a guitarist and Vai's crowning achievement is playing the losing guitarist in crossroads. Those guys have such noodle arms they aren't fit to carry T-Bone's guitar case.
Well T-Bone may be right there with the great players/guitarist as good as he may or may not be by most anyone elses opinion......

I mean regarding Top 10 it depends but I would be surprised that if 10% or 5% of anyone knowing or not knowing about guitar/players would bring up the name "T-Bone".

Alot of my Top 10 had to do with not only technique and skill as a player but also impact in music/guitar and it's hard to argue that a lot of my Top 10 shouldn't be Top 10 vs other players in history IMO short of one or two........

But again it just depends I guess and YMMV :dunno:

Both of those guys basically invented the vocabulary of blues and jazz and as for T-Bone, Chuck Berry basically ripped him off note for note, which is the framework for rock leads. It's not really an opinion as much as a fact. I don't know if "great" applies, but "original" sure would. Then again their instructor was probably the real brains of the outfit, lol

Well maybe the same argument could be brought up for Muddy Waters right but as good as he was well........

It ain't really nothing Freddie Green or Robert Johnson didn't bring before or someone like BB King or SRV didn't make better for example and build upon if anything even further afterwards.

But that's me, Buddy Guy could easily be on the Top 10 as well for that matter.........

Well on average maybe what you consider to be the best doesn't line up with everyone elses opinion or mine.....

Or maybe the same with me but as much as with anyone on my Top 10 or anyone else mentioned I would say Neil Young could easily be on anyones Top 10 of all time Guitarist.

Maybe if you replaced "guitarist" with "classic rock songwriter" I would get it, but I don't see how anyone could think he's a great guitarist let alone top 10 of anything guitar related

That isn't even shade at his music - it's the same for like Kurt Cobain

Crappy guitarist, good songwriter that lots of people like

Chuck Berry ripped off T-Bone, note for note

Robert Johnson ripped of a lot of Tampa Red, and was basically a footnote in the acoustic blues realm because it was over by the time he was recorded. Short of some hippies covering his stuff he would be fully forgotten. Instead Red is forgotten, yet in his day he was the center of the Chicago blues scene and even was given a gold plated national tricone because he is the original "guitar wizard" but I bet you never heard of him thanks to sycophants in the 60's era and onwards.

Funny who gets remembered and who does not I guess.

Not really and well Curt Cobain is probably better than most players nowadays given that IMO........

In accordance with @The~Kid logic now i'm ready for my top 10 guitarists of all time

If you disagree with any of these, let's see you guys do it! How many albums have you sold?

All of these multi-platinum selling artists are now the top 10 guitar players of all time, and if you disagree you're just hating because you can't do what they do

'Neil Young' sounds like a disgusting sexual act that Jeffery Epstein undoubtedly committed several times

People mostly go for what they are told via popular culture vs doing the research themselves and finding that original source material. It's how a lot of great artists, and players, are overlooked. If we are strictly talking raw guitar talent then most of the players listed in this thread ain't gonna make a top 10 cut.

I can even see artists that aren't that technically gifted or don't have insane raw virtuoso talent for guitar, as long as they are good guitar players that have iconic parts or their playing influenced people

So I can see someone saying Brian May or David Gilmour, even though they aren't insane virtuousos or anything - they have iconic styles, tones, riffs and leads

Neil Young and Kurt Cobain, I don't even get remotely because it isn't even their guitar playing that people like LOL

No one goes "listen to this amazing neil young solo man, it really captures the melody of this song" or "listen to this cobain solo, it's so interesting dynamically"

They're literally only talking about the songwriting, not the guitar playing

Any of these guys are probably ahead of you or me or anyone else on this forum or any forum in that case.........

Unfortunately as said not everyone wears the Brass Ring at the end of the day........

For example Eric Johnson is nowhere near or anyones Top 10 or mentioned so far let alone someone else like Slash that easily could be a Top 10 too.

Yeah being honest you could throw George Harrison in between both of these types of players mentioned and well Harrison would be a Top 10 based off that he just knew what to play at the right time and had a bigger impact on a lot more people aside from players/guitarist of the time or since than anyone else on my Top 10...........

But didn't make it nonetheless.
