I must be getting used to the sound of JBs, because lately I'm really digging them and judging other pickups based on the JB's tonal qualities.

I want to know if the Motor City Afwayu sounds at all like the JB. My perfect pickup would be a more balanced JB with slightly less fizz and meatier mids. Also, anyone have experience with the WarCry? Sounds pretty cool from the description. As far as Duncans, how do 59's sound in the bridge? output? Currently all my guitars are mahogany or mahogany w/ maple

I tried a few Bareknuckles and was a bit dissapointed, but that could have any factor; guitar, amps etc...

I have a solution in one lp and a hell baby in another and i love em. This coming from a guy who could use nothing but emgs.

I would be interested in hearing the answer to this. I loved the JB in Les Paul types. I have a BB3 in my current and have been interested in the Afwayu.

What about magnets? I'm thinking I'll try a ceramic in my LP and an alnico Afwayu in the C-1 classic. I like the Dimarzio Evo in my LP copy, or at least the response from the ceramic magnet so I'll probably like a ceramic WarCry or Solution in the Gibson.

Had an old 70s Dimarzo Super Distortion in my old Lester and loved it. Ceramic pups are nice

The Afwayu has alot more bottom than the JB IMO.

The Angel Dust is the closest Motor City pickup to the JB. It has a pronounced upper mid like the JB, but it's tighter and not fizzy. Also cleans up much better when you roll the volume down on your guitar. An awesome pickup.

The Afwayu is much bigger sounding, with much more low and and lower mids. Meaner tone, without the upper mid spike of the JB.

Thanks for the responses guys. More low end is definitely NOT what I need from my rig. I'll look into the Angel Dust and maybe some other MCP offerings. ;)

The BKP Nailbomb is the best JB I ever owned. Give it another shot.

The nailbomb was not one of the BK's that I tried

Suhr Aldrich - to my ears, it sounds like a bigger, more percussive JB.

Almost every guitar i own has EMG's,when i bought my ESP CS Horizon i was going to replace the
JB until i used it live,i have since replaced it with a MC Solution,it sounds awsome,at low volumes
it didn't sound all that great, only until i cranked the volume it came alive.
I'm getting rid of my EMG's now, except in my Les Pauls since they already sound muddy.
However the JB DID sound really good.
This is coming from somebody that has used active EMG's since the early 1990's.
