Considering how much discussion there's been in the Randy vs. Eddie debate, let's compare two players more closely matched than Randy and Eddie. IMHO it's pointless to compare those two anyway. Their styles/music is completely different. Even though Jake and Zakk's styles are different too, they at least both played with Ozzy, so it's a better comparison.

I'm going with Jake on this one. He never seemed to play the same fill twice, whereas Zakk always does the same ones ad nausium...sqweals, pick slides, etc. over and over. Zakk's best stuff was the NRFTW and Pride and Glory.

Jake hasn't done much recently, but his playing was fresh and different, a great direction for Ozzy to go with. His stuff with Badlands was killer too.

I much prefer Jake! Badlands was one of my favorite bands! Still listen to it often.

this is a tough call .
I like Badlands better that black label.
If we are talking in Ozzy .Zakk before he went crazy had some great tunes.
Anything after no more beers, go Jake

I think both are amazing players, and both unique... but I'll have to go with Jake.

First Badlands album is one of the most underappreciated records that I can think of. Raw and soulful, almost every song is really good. I just can't listen to Zakk's squealies for more than a few seconds. I'm sure there is more to him but I haven't been able to listen for long enough to find out.

I think as far as riffs, No Rest For The Wicked was one of the best collections of those from that era. Still though, I would go with Jake on this poll. Bark at the Moon and Rock and Roll Rebel are both great riffs and I think Jakes leads are way, way better. I think Zakk has a ton of attitude and fire in his soloing, I just think his scale choices and note choices are beyond boring.

And I haven't been very interested in anything Zakk has done since No More Tears. I also can't stand the fake hillbilly with a southern accent(from New Jersey), fake biker, Captain Caveman persona Zakk became. I swear, that to me is as much a poser as those guys in Poison ever were. That is just as "image conscious" an image as I have ever seen. And I think it is just as contrived.

I had high hopes for Zakk when he got that Ozzy gig, but I have been mainly disappointed with his output.

Love both but consider book of shadows, No Rest..., Gotta go with Zakk.

Jake easily. No Rest and No more Tears were great, but BATM and Ultimate sin are my fave 2 Ozzy LP's. Once Zakk starting tuning his guitar way down his tone and playing went to shit... like most other tuned way too low garble-metal-who needs a bass player bands.
CHUG CHUG SQUEAL! CHUG CHUG SQUEAL! Zakk, tune your goddamn guitar back to E-flat and start ripping again!

I like Zakk he is a monster player but, Jake while in Ozzy was really on top of his game.

Bark at the moon & The ultimate sin where two badass back to back albums.

Jake it is

Both are great but I prefer Jake.

The early Zakk stuff was so killer. Agression was incredible.

I liked Zakk on his first two recordings with Ozzy and the Pride and Glory stuff. Beyond that, meh....

I think that Jake got caught in the mid-80's glam rock Ozzy band, and would have shined more if it were not for that fact. His work in Badlands drives this point home.

Jake wins this contest, for me anyway.

With Ozzy, Jake hands down. Still listen to Ultimate Sin regularly. Really interesting leads and rhythms on that one. Don't ever listen to NRFTW or No More Tears anymore. Out of Ozzy, I go with Zakk because Pride and Glory and the first few BLS records are fantastic and I feel Badlands is actually over rated. Now if we could bring Ray back from the dead and have him sing for BLS that could be something special. Jake has always had a poor tone for my ears, even on the Badlands stuff. His tone on Ultimate isn't that great but I love the riffs and playing. His classic rock tone has always been thinner and fizzier than I like. Plus there's plenty of guys from the early 70's that would play rings around Jake when you're doing more classic stuff.
