Splawn Quick Rod time. Really like this amp, has it's own thing going on.
What pickups are in the LPC at REF F? I didn’t see them listed, only the speaker?

F…typo? Silverburst has a Duncan Custom Shop DDJ if that helps ?What pickups are in the LPC at REF F? I didn’t see them listed, only the speaker?
Sorry REF C and it does!F…typo? Silverburst has a Duncan Custom Shop DDJ if that helps ?
Actually Channel 1 with the gain dimed in the CCV RULES.Are you buying a Cameron Modded Marshall for mid gain tho?
I didn't ?
Cool! Not sure how much it actually differs to a regular Distortion but I do know it sounds great in that particular guitar.Sorry REF C and it does!
Yeah I didn't wanna seem like a hater, but I felt the same way. It's the really quacky mids and lack of full frequency (somewhat choked thing) that doesn't appeal to me, but kudos to Zen for making a great, honest video that properly shows this with high quality recording. Tighter than an 800? Sure if compared to a stock unboosted one. More aggressive? Hell no to my ears. Maybe a more aggressive quack though if you want that in your sound. FWIW I feel some semantics I hear for describing gear isn't always the most accurateLove your demos, they’re the best around imo, but not digging the Splawn. Sounds like a really bland, mediocre Marshall.

I may not have guessed it was a Splawn if I didn’t know (hard to say what I’d guess), but I’d instantly recognize it as a sound I find undesirable. Any time now I hear that quacky sound I assume it’s a Splawn, but there are others too I suppose with that quack. I’ve AB’ed them many times with various modded Marshall’s and amps going for that sound. I honestly even like Friedman’s more when I’ve done them. Not being a hater, just my honest thoughts. There are amps around where the Splawn is priced (and a few slightly more) that I think sound much better, although maybe since covid the prices have changed on them (haven’t kept up with them). I never give any firm opinions on anything without AB comparisons fwiw. There have been some things I’ve not AB’ed, so I’m reserved on my thoughts there. Seriously the quack in some of those parts is undeniable, but was masked and sounded better with the H75I've often wondered if you guys didn't know it was a Splawn if you would have the exact same opinions about it?
Everyone is entitled to not like it for a myriad of reasons but people really seem like they don't want to admit that a Splawn amp can hold it's own in the Modded Marshall category regardless of price range. Maybe Zen captured how the amp sounds?...I don't think he is masking any shortcomings of the amps he has demonstrated so far with amp studio voodoo.
The comp 50 I do remember liking more than others. This one guy I know had an earlier one that he modded himself that sounded much better than any other Splawn I’d heard. I told him how Splawn’s aren’t my thing and he said wait till you try this one. Wish I knew what he did exactlyI absolutely would. Years ago, I had a Splawn Competition 50 and it sounded killer. I used to get mad compliments when I gigged with it. It was actually very aggressive and had a nice gritty, grind to it. This one sounds like a neutered Marshall to my ears.
I think we all agree he’s not masking anything or any voodoo. That’s why we appreciate so much his vids. The only “masking” is unintentional and happens like the part with the H75 that just suits the amp well and masks some of the qualities that some like myself find undesirableI've often wondered if you guys didn't know it was a Splawn if you would have the exact same opinions about it?

Nah, I don’t think it’s awful, just bland and forgettable. Not a tone that sticks with me like some of their other demos, especially that last Marshall demo, or like Eddy Lenz’s Larry demo. That demo fucking haunts my dreams.I listened carefully to the Splawn and it’s really not that awful. Honestly, at no point did I drop to my knees and plead, “why Zen, why?”. Well, that concludes the positive portion of my listening review. Tune in tomorrow for some on point criticism of this amp.
Splawn not recommended with V30s. They sound the worst.Yeah I didn't wanna seem like a hater, but I felt the same way.
