Zohran Mamdani Appreciation Thread

DoorDash spent $1.4 million to beat Mamdani. He just made them pay their drivers nearly 100 times that.

Its CEO tells business owners to run "the greedy algorithm." The company's own statement Tuesday: "Simply put, we screwed up."

On Tuesday, Zohran Mamdani announced the largest worker settlement in New York City history. DoorDash will pay $131.5 million, and $115 million of it goes straight to the 264,000 delivery workers it shorted over four years.

Those are the riders on e-bikes, most of them immigrants, who carry the city's dinner through the rain. Nobody has to file a claim. The city already knows who's owed what. The emails go out in late October, and every dollar the company held back comes back doubled, up to $5,000 a rider. For the next three years DoorDash has to hand the city its pay records every month.

The case started with dozens of riders telling the city they'd been paid late or not at all. Investigators went through 152 million payments and found the company had left hours off the clock: canceled trips, runs that crossed the city line, all time the city's minimum pay law says a rider gets paid for. The city found DoorDash "deliberately" paid below the minimum. Mamdani called it "not an accidental rounding error or a mistake."

DoorDash, in its statement:

"Simply put, we screwed up. Our mistakes meant some Dashers were underpaid or paid late. While these mistakes weren't intentional, that doesn't make them okay."

Mamdani, at the podium:
"Two months ago, Tony Xu, the CEO of DoorDash, gave business owners a piece of advice. A CEO, he said, has to take the greedy algorithm and keep going all the way to see if there is more. In computer science, a greedy algorithm is one that makes the most optimized, best short-term outcome choice at every step and never weighs the consequences. New York City and the tens of thousands of delivery workers who call our city home have reckoned with greed as a business model for far too long."

In May 2025, with Mamdani surging in the primary, DoorDash wrote a $1 million check to Fix the City, the super PAC that spent $31 million to stop him. It was the biggest donation in the race at the time. The ads called him "a risk New York can't afford."

One mailer digitally lengthened and darkened his beard. The fine print at the end of the TV spots read: "The top three donors to the organization responsible for this advertisement are Michael Bloomberg, DoorDash, John Hess." All in, The Intercept counts about $1.4 million from DoorDash against him.

He had promised on the trail to go after the delivery apps. Two weeks after he was sworn in, his administration put them on notice. Ligia Guallpa, whose group helped riders file the first complaints: "DoorDash decided to invest money in trying to buy our city's democracy."

Mamdani: "When a worker earns a wage, they deserve to be paid that wage — not tomorrow, not after a lawsuit, but on time and in full."

DoorDash's ads called Mamdani "a risk New York can't afford."
New York could afford him. DoorDash couldn't.

A company worth roughly 82 billion is supposed to pay $115 million to 264,000 people. This amounts to about $435 total per person. Or $108 per year for the 4 years owed. This is supposed to be a huge win?
Got your $5K check yet?

Ya, compared to losing like Trump does every time, it's a win.

Would you care to explain how Trump bloviating about a $5K check has anything to do with Mamdani's lawsuit judgement against a food delivery company? Or is this just playing the whataboutism game again?

I'm happy to help you understand. Here - Mamdani gets real wins. Trump invents wins that never happened and never will happen. Whether you think the win is big or small doesn't matter. Mamdani is actually doing shit, not just talking shit. How many times has Drumpf won the war in Iran now? Hahahaha. And Iran is still fucking him like a cheap whore.

That's as clear as I can make it. If you still have issues understanding I can't (and won't) help you any more.

Have a nice day.

So playing the whataboutism game; got it. (y)

Nope. Pointing out your hypocrisy and bias with an example.
You really weren't.

My original post noted Mamdani's win wasn't as big as he was portraying it to be due to the way the math worked out per person.
Later in a response to you I implied Trumps $5K check idea was dumb by saying he was bloviating about it.
No hypocrisy or bias in either of those.

Remember you dragged stuff about Trump into a conversation that had nothing to do with him.

Care to try again?

No, your original post was to mock Mamdani's win as insignificant. Go back and read it again if you've forgotten.

Bloviating (credit George Will for making it popular) is a great word. But Trump wasn't exaggerating or blowing hot air, he was out and out lying. And the Maggats swallowed it whole. Lol. Stupid, stupid, fuck knuckles. Because you STILL can't see it, I brought that in to show MAGA hypocrisy in that they'll cheer an imaginary win but poo-poo a real win.

"I'm not MAGA" says Mad. "Oh yes you are" says Kirk.

My original post was to mock Shrek's incessant swinging from Mamdani's nuts and being an antagonistic turd. We all know he only posted that in a lame attempt to irritate Mamdani detractors. There was no intent for actual discussion. I was mainly antagonizing him back.

My honest opinion of the lawsuit is it's actually something decent he did for workers in New York. If DoorDash shorted workers then they should be held responsible and be made to pay what's owed. The shit part of any class action or similar lawsuit is it's usually a drop in the bucket for the company and those being represented still get the short end of the stick. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the DoorDash drivers are owed more than $100 per year.

I don't know who George Will is, but I like the word bloviating. It's up there with plethora.

Trump was full of hot air about the $5K payout and he knew it. He was just pandering to the base. You can call it outright lying and that's fair enough. I think he'd do it if he could, but knows in actuality it couldn't happen. I chose the word bloviating because I believe he was sincere in the intent even though it couldn't happen.

I'm sure hard core MAGA swallowed the $5K payout thing hook, line, and sinker and may be waiting by the mailbox. If that's the hypocrisy you want to call out, then fine. Though I don't really see the hypocrisy connection to Mamdani's lawsuit; where's the contradiction/pretending of moral values?

The other mistake you're making is assuming everyone here who is right leaning is hardcore MAGA. With 1-2 exceptions that's the furthest thing from the truth. Most here are conservative, but only MAGA in the sense that they want to see what's best for America. It doesn't mean Trump is their Jesus or whatever you like to label. Most can understand nuance and see the good Trump has done while acknowledging the bad. You'd see that if you paid attention and weren't always about trying to get one over on conservatives.

People here may come off as Trump bootlickers or whatever. That's because liberal turds like you, shrek, and many others who came before you rolled in with assumptions and antagonistic trolling. Not a single one ever showed any interest in having a nuanced conversation to discuss events and ideas. It was all just posts to ruffle feathers. So of course there's going to be pushback that doesn't necessarily acknowledge nuances.

Anyway, I'm only posting this because you have at times shown some civility in conversation. Hopefully you may gain some insight and maybe try to engage in conversation a little more rather than be an antagonistic shlub. Just remember in that you need to be the person who takes the first step since your entrance here was less than stellar. Or not, it's up to you.

Nothing wrong with "MAGA". It's a communist tactic to demonize political movements.

The fact that it annoys assholes like you is just a bonus.
I'm wondering what makes him qualified to even make such a distinction?
To him anyone who doesn't think Trump raped babies is maga.
