Is there a video recorder that is better for around the same price? I know some people on here use em I'm just curious of the pros and cons. Any other reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. Dont really wont to spend over $400.

I think the price is coming down on those. The Q3HD is the class of the field right now. I have seen others with comparable video but none with both great audio and video.

Audio is generally great with it. Video is solid in brightly lit room or very close up to what your shooting. Put any distance/darkness(concert) into the equation and the camera sucks. It's worth the money, I think, if you realize its limitations going into the purchase.

The only thing that bugs me about mine is the alkaline batteries. I would love rechargeable NiMH or Lithium ion cells.

Dragging up this semi-old thread to say that anyone researching this issue should get the Olympus LS-20M instead. Got the Zoom first, found it cheap feeling, minimal features and mostly useless mic settings and had to send it back. The Olympus is far more flexible, better built, better video, stereo mics with full manual adjustment capabilities, rechargeable lithium ion, etc, etc. You can even get a wireless remote for it for $40. Neither is going to be audio snob hi-fi but I made an acoustic recording with it last night and it's quite acceptable. The Olympus is what I hoped I'd be receiving when I ordered the Zoom.

I just sold mine cause our bass player bought one and he's in charge of recording our rehearsal sessions. It's fast and easy to use, and sounds great.

Thanks for the tip on the Olympus. I had the Zoom Q3 and hated the inability to get decent recordings with it's limited recording options. They did nothing to improve it on the Q3HD model. This Olympus is the shit. I did a vid on the Auto setting and it kills, plus the vid quality and options make it a killer deal at $300

Still liking mine, much better unit than the Zoom. It doesn't take to dark setting very well but there is a setting in there for adjusting that. I haven't tried the Auto mic setting yet, I use the manual control by setting it almost as high as I can without the clipping light on top coming on. The Zoom would adjust the volume wildly during a song rendering it almost useless to me. It's not perfect but considering they are the same price the Olympus has way more options is all around definitely much better.

Boy this is great info...thanks for all the insight! Ayone have any thoughts on Edirol?

Thank you ToneLover.
I didn't start this thread, but have been wondering what to use for recording myself, and for youtube video's that would make it easier to have at least someone quality audio to go with the video instead of recording them separate and working / fixing in Imovie, etc,.
Thanks

What kind of db levels can the Olympus handle? You can find them cheap enough now that it might be worth looking into...I didn't wanna bite the bullet on another $300 cam so soon after the Zoom.
