So I got this import G&L Rampage Cantrell sig guitar and this bastard is BRIGHT. This is my first non-mahognay guitar and there is zero low end and only mids and high end to this G&L.

Is that to be expected from an all-maple construction? Recommend me a good pickup that will warm this thang up please!

Looking for something medium gain. Not crazy hot or anything.

I have tried a Duncan JB & Invader so far and still low 'oomph' at all. WTF?

I think something like a Custom Custom, Dimarzio Tone Zone, would sound pretty solid. I put a Suhr Aldrich in a bright guitar and it added a lot of thickness. Interesting...the JB is the stock pickup for the US model Rampage.

Fluff, try the Tone Zone.....I put one in my super bright all maple S540 and it matched perfectly I promise. You can see the specs of those pups are very heavy in Mid and Bass.

Dimarzio Gravity Storm? I was just looking at these and the specs have ALOT of mid and low end and very little top. I have a Suhr DSH+ in a Alder body maple neck strat that was a bright guitar and it warmed it up.

Try a Suhr Aldrich - it'll warm up a bright guitar and it's pretty aggressive.

Invader should have thumped.

Sure you don't have pot and/or tone cap issues?

The Invader did help quite a bit. Still a bit think sounding though.

I am told Cantrell's actual guitar tech takes the stock pots out of even the US model because it 'adds these weird highs'. Maybe I will try and change the pot and if that doesnt work I will throw a Custom Custom or Tone Zone in there.

If you have a guitar that is lacking in Bass and need to tame highs the Tone Zone is most definitely what you are looking for IMHO.

With that said, I have 2 maple bodied guitars and they are most definitely not lacking in bass, so Id gather you got a piece of wood that is a bit lacking in the bass region (they all vary!) Id most definitely try a Tone zone ;)

Yeah I am thinking its the wood too. Thanks for the advice guys!

If you have 500k pots, most likely, you could switch to 250k and will hear a difference. It's a cheap test for sure.

Another vote for the Tone Zone here. Ralphie turned me onto it and Steve Blucher at DiMarzio recommended it to me after that and I couldnt be happier...

Motor City Afwayu. Thats what Jerry uses.

Yes, the Afwayu shines in bright guitars!! The Tone Zone is also a good choice!!!
