Banned from The Gear Page for 2 weeks

I was talking to a mod at TGP through PMs and he said that they don't have the time or resources to be auditing all the threads and all the posts.
Most all of their infractions, warnings and bans come as a result of someone reporting the post who was offended by it.
Basically..overly sensitive snitches telling on you...

TGP added a new group of moderators to cover all of the forums which results in someone blowing the whistle on you for your religious/political/ & vulgar jokes/comments. Someone else will put in the time to watch that forum if any of the staff isn't available.

Currently there were 919 members, 1565 guests online at the TGP.

With 2500 people browsing, 800k threads, and 17 million messages (currently), the TGP would need roughly 500 moderators full time to stay on top of this. And yeah, the mods can't read every thread, so there are members who report posts. It is what it is, because of the size of the forum.

My guess is the tolerance level has been lowered quite a bit since I joined there in 2012 as the 2700th member (or something like that). And yes, I have been given two "time outs" since I joined, also over arguing with post reporters, and wimps. It happens, no reason to dwell on it.

The problem with TGP bans is they ban one member for a post and another one posts the same thing or worse and doesn't get banned. They are very inconsistent.
Stop modding that forum like a G rated movie. The average age has to be 50 over there. Lighten up. Make it PG-13 at least.

I think people need to get over it.
I've cracked it on there about the crappy quality of a pedal brand when I was running a pedal repair business and was given a deserved holiday.

It's a gear forum. I couldn't give two shits about other people's political/religious/racial opinions, anymore than I care about what what they had for breakfast.
Play by the house rules or move on.

American politics on the Left and the Right need to eat a Flame Thrower! There will be a Revolution in this country and only then will these politicians realize they work for us Not vice versa! What a calamity on both sides of the aisle... A Fucking joke, all of it! Left Center Right it all is beyond repair IMO! God Damn ship of Fools...

Thread revival because I got a week-long TGP ban on Saturday. I have absolutely no clue what prompted this, got no warning, am sure I didn't post anything political or any porn. No idea. What a sack of snowflakes.

There are a LOT of douchey kindergarten teacher style forums that will ban your ass for not rolling with group think or happily licking their ballsweat. I got banned from the denver donkeys forum a couple of weeks ago for questioning why one guy could call everyone stupid for thinking that elway wasn't a good GM, while another guy got admonished for disagreeing with that. I posted that I didn't understand why the mods would enforce one thing, and not the more egregious infraction. Next thing you know... I try to log in and it said that I'd been banned for harrassing the mods. It was freakin BIZARRE! Today was my ban lift. I won't be back. I would be tempted to login and speak REAL TRUTH there for a change and just blow it up, but it'd be deleted within a minute or two.

I don't care to engage with childish pussies who live in a complete vacuum of opposing ideas. It must SUCK to be such a g#&amned speshul snowflake that you literally can't handle ANY opposing thought or opinion without pissing your pants. But these are the eff'd-up times we live in. Tyranny of the minority. Two wrongs DO make a right. Yadda yadda.

P.S. many of these forums will replace a low-grade word like "ass" with "***". Seriously? People need to be protected from reading the word ASS? Holy hell it's getting ridiculous out there. When I want to use that word, I'll just type in A$$ instead to defeat the filter. This place and ARFcom (gun forum) are the only places I hang where adults can speak without undue biased/random fear of censorship.

I heard recently that the TGP is now affiliated with a new sponsor or something like that. I'm only guessing but I imagine they put in some limits to words used.

I don't think you've been able to type in most swear words without them turning to **** for awhile now. It is what it is. If the members paid for the site bandwidth fees totally, you could probably get away with anything. But with advertisers involved, they probably don't want it turning into Harmony Central.

But as I said, I'm just guessing.

Most sites that use the google add network are doing this as they will drop your site for profanity IIRC.

I'm wondering if some old post of mine got proofed long after I wrote it. I know what I posted there the day before and when I was banned and it was not remotely controversial, political, porn or whatever. When I click on TGP, I get a pop-up saying I've been banned until 11/16 with an "I Understand" button to click. When I try to click it, it says I'm banned and can't do anything until 11/16. HTF do they think they're going to reduce rules violations when they ban people with no mention of the reason?

If the mods aren't notifying members of why they are being banned, then A) there's no accountability on the board because the mods could ban without cause and B) the ban becomes pointless, as the "punishment" will never deter behavior if a member isn't able to identify the behavior that led to the ban.

Also, is there anything in the regulations when signing up for premium membership that states violating rules would temporarily forfeit your paid subscription? If not, then I would argue you're owed a prorated amount of your membership fee returned spanning the time they're restricting access to the services that you paid for. And at a minimum, you're owed an explanation of why you're being prevented from using services for which you paid to have access.

I stopped renewing my paid membership after my first temp. ban about a year ago, something about owing duty on stuff bought via Reverb from overseas - real red meat political stuff.

If so many members are being banned for bullshit, why do y'all keep going back for more?

If you bought an item from a store and got ripped off, would you go back and buy it again?

Stop feeding it, and it will eventually dry up and wither like so many other piss-poor gear forums run by douchehats in the past (metroamp.com, plexipalace.com, mylespaul.com, etc...).

The only reason forums like that exist is because of the members (aside from the owner and his clique) that join. Also, most of
these gear forums are designed to push and shill someone's product (directly or indirectly). And if that ain't the reason,
it's ad revenue.

Just like in the Wizard of Oz, pay no attention to the micropenised little man behind the curtain running the show.
And stop acting like any given forum is some holy fucking popery that cannot be touched and is beyond reproach.

Never, ever tolerate bullshit. From anybody. Take your business elsewhere.

I only use TGP to sell/buy gear these days (which I haven't done in a while there). I used to post there in the regular forums once in a while, but frankly it was never very satisfying, not being in the clique there. Every gathering of people has cliques. But some places you are 100% persona non grata if you're not in the clique. And frankly, TGP comes off as 100% a "nerd clique". Seriously, this place is the working man's gear forum. Many forum members here have extensive experience gigging. Whereas that place comes off as a place where doctor's with a house full of gear, but who never gigged get off on endless nitpicking about the minutia of pointless discussions. So I just pay my membership and use the forum for the only thing that matters to me there... buying and selling.

P.S. TGP reminds me of the old PRS Forum back in the late 90s/early 2000s. There were guys with a room full of expensive PRS', who could barely play. That's all fine, but when you own a lot of nice gear and then think that it makes your opinion AS A PLAYER important... then things start to smell like chili that's been processed by the human digestive system. There was this one particular guy who was just some kind of forum tyrant/bully. We were all entitled to his opinion and it was TRUTH. He had some great guitars, including my dream guitar at the time (PRS Rosewood Ltd). Come to find out, the guy couldn't even really play. I called him out on it one day and he admitted it saying "stick a fork in me, I'm done". It was bizarre, like he was off of his meds or something. Most of the people who hang out here seem like regular dudes, and most can PLAY. It takes all skill and experience levels... but when the size of your check book somehow makes you the expert as a guitar player... something has gone seriously wrong. In my early gigging days of the late-80s and early 90s, I made my living with cheap gear. I'd been doing that for about 10-15 years before I even bought my first decent guitar and amp. I had some gear envy in those days... though there were no forums, just guys around the local scene who had better gear than me. But I finally made myself at peace with my humble means by focusing on chops. Chops > gear... all day, every day. Money can't buy those. If they could, Jim Irsay would be a virtuoso.

I’ve been booted a couple times on TGP. I was banned from the Ernie Ball and Hammer forums for speaking my mind. Oh well...

Lifetime banned at least 20x. What do you expect with guys like Scott Peterson and that slob Big Mike.
