Can anyone tell me the difference between Celestion Vintage 30's as opposed to the Celestion/Marshall Vintage g12's that come in the Marshall 1960 AV/BV 4x12 cabinets?

V30's have more of a midrange "spike" that can be a bit annoying, plus the G12M will have a better breakup. the V30 is more modern sounding, good for metal, G12M is suited well for Classic tones.bcole":31mra76c said:

I think he is asking the difference between two versions of V30's...the regular off the shelf Vintage 30, and the one that comes loaded in the 1960AV/BV cabs.

Someone did a review on TGP of the Marshall branded/labeled Vintage30s. Said that the Marshall ones were brighter on top, and less mid spike.

AFAIK they are the same, Marshall labels them 70watts, because according to their tests it can handle it and Celestion rate them too conservatively.

They are not the same speaker. The Marshall vintage sounds like a cross between a 75 watt Celestion and a vintage 30 in sound. I much prefer the real vintage 30.

I had a Marshall cab with the "Marshall Vintage" speakers, and really didn't like them at all. The real v30s are MUCH better sounding. The Marshall Vintages sounded really crispy.

I got a 1960 BV cab for a steal with the marshall vintage 30's and dave is dead on about the sound there bright but clear and very crunchy in the mids. I find the vintage 30 in my port city much smoother sounding. I did like the marshall for the clean sounds. But i put the marshall cab up for sale.

Similar but still different. IMO the Marshall sounds more solid and the regular sounds softer and fuzzier.

Yeah I can definitely hear the softer sound. I had some V30's once that came in an ampeg cab they were super bright. Piercing but if you could stand it they just ripped for leads. I think the cab had a lot to do with it. It was sealed, smaller and slanted. The front panel angled in it was a little 2x12 looked real cool.

Real Vintage 30s with the right amp will do anything. Love V30s with my Shviva and PWE and I don't play metal. V30s with the right amp will do anything. Don't listen to people who claim 30s are for metal. I play clean, crunch and e verything but metal and love V30s. Variety is key. My one cab has V30s, one has K100s and one high power Greenbacks.

just got a 1960BV loaded with 2 Celestion V30s and two Marshall / Celestion V30s, quick 5 min test and it sounds KILLER w/this combo!
Marshall V30s are defo smoother while the V30s are brighter and more modern sounding...
