I know that I am in the minority, but George's tone on the Lynch Mod self-titled album is one of my all time favorites. Anybody know what amps he was using during this era? I'm guessing SLO100 or Aston Pittman's purple plexi. The tone is so smooth, yet articulate. I do know that it doesn't sound like he was using the Duncan Screaming' Demon. The tone is too smooth for that pickup. Anyway... just jamming this today, and was curious.

His playing is on fire for this song...

I like that album a lot too. I think the tones are great as usual but they are def. smoother. However to be honest with you, it doesn't feel so much like it is the gear than it does the mic placement and then the EQ in the final mix. A little less 57, a little more Royer 121 and a little more off axis and you are probably there. Fun to tone hunt though.

Oh, I love the vocals on this album too, killer. Almost prefer them to Oni's already awesome vox on the first album.

So funny, just checked that thread and I said the exact same thing about the mic placement and how awesome Mason sounds. At least I am consistent!

There are a few Lynch instructional video's from that era. Maybe watch those and see if you can see what amps are in the studio. One of them shows him playing along with some tracks from that first Lynch Mob album with Max Norman at the board. Ive seen them but do not remember the names of the vid's..I do remember a good size rack in some shots.

At the time he said he tried all the usual suspects and nothing worked, and at the eleventh hour two Marshall plexi’s he bought in Japan 6 months before arrived and that’s what he used on the album. I’m sure there is a dirt pedal or two there as well. My guess is Ibanez tube screamer.

That video was done during wicked sensation so it won’t help for what he’s asking about.
