Hx effects vs pedalboard

Which route would you go/ have you gone and why? I am debating between getting a few pedals for the loop (chorus, reverb, delay) or just getting the hx effects but I can’t decide.
 
I did that a while back and couldn’t be happier.
I run a few drive pedals in the front and use the HX in the loop. It’s quiet and infinitely tweakable and the effects are top notch.
 
Actually I really like the drive pedals and it can also switch amp channels.
 
I do both. I've been messing with different iterations of my board, with the HX being the only constant. I really like it as a grab-and-go option to put in front of my DRRI. I'll usually add a TS and wah in front and use the pedal for the rest. I also use it in the loop of my 101b just for time-based stuff, then running all the gain into the front. It's really a great pedal and incredibly versatile. New drive pedals in it are way better than the old stuff too!
 
For gigging, HX effects 4CM all of the way. Makes life so much easier. The fx sound awesome and after the recent 3.0 update, L6 has stepped up their game even more. Plus remember, you're also getting all of the M13 effects so its like getting 2 products in one. Grab an expression if you don't already have one and you're good to go!
 
I went with the HXFX...excellent unit but I ended up going back to pedals. I loved the HXFX because the fx are solid and the midi option is great too. I feel with any mutli fx unit it's like having the jack of all trades but master of none, so that's why I prefer pedals dedicated to a specific effect.
 
I don't use many effects so I just sold my stomp and switched to a carbon copy. I may end up getting another EQ at some point. For some reason I can never bond with the drive pedals in the Kemper or HX stomp.

As far as the delay, there is something with the carbon copy that I love. I dont know how to explain it but I guess it has a warm sound

I was considering doing it this way I have never been a fan of the dirt from multi fx. I had the full size helix for a while and I didn’t like the ods and fuzz that much but it seems they may have improved them.
 
I just got an ms3 instead of a pedalboard, and its awesome! You can put the chorus, delay, eq,etc... in the loop and drive and gate in front. The ts in it works pretty good, but ive been using the parametric as a boost instead. Reminds me of how everyone used the old pq3’s. Ive set the parametric to act like my grind pedal.
 
I loved my HX and the fact it controlled my amp was a bonus. The only thing i wish it had was a longer sweeping phaser and a really good tape delay like a Skreddy Echo.
 
Also the TC Electronic Plethora X5 is really nice. Great effects. It's more like having a bunch of stomp boxes since It doesn't have scenes or snapshots like the HX or MS-3 but the effects are really solid.

MS3 is awesome. I totally agree. And tiny!

Mind sharing your settings for parametric EQ?
 
My buddy who is a long time Helix user finally ditched the Helix and just got an HXFX. It's a killer unit

Ill turn it on and take a couple pics. Still getting it closer but im in the ball park. I got a patch with my grind in loop 1, and trying to a\b thems.

Why did he make the switch from Helix to HX FX? Just to save room? I'm actually considering going to the full Helix for 4CM needs with my amp instead of the HX FX. Just curious if there's some features or something useful with the HX FX that isn't there with the Helix.

He traded it straight across for a Dual Recto head and a brand new Friedman 2x12. He still has Helix Native so it was kind of a win/win

I never had the heart to tell him but I never thought the Helix sounded good, either haha
