Thought about selling

The only thing that seems not to be selling is 4x12 cabs as shipping is crazy high....

@panhead

Recently sold off almost everything I'd collected.
Figured 60 was a good age to do it cause I wouldn't have wanted to drop dead and leave all of it for my wife to deal with.

I say do it. Only keep what you use often and move the rest.
You're only a heartbeat away from having them all be gone anyway.

The day will come when I can no longer handle lifting and lugging a 100w Marshall head and 4x12 to gigs. But I might as well enjoy it for as long as I can.

How much to ship a 4x12 now? Haven't sold one of those in decades..early 90's if I remember correctly..

I have decided that when I get old, and can't play anymore..I am literally going to give my gear away to kids. I'm going to find some kid who seems like they love guitar in a shop, or somewhere...and just hand them one.

It cost me $145 to ship a 60 lbs guitar head from Arizona to MD ground recently. Imagine the cost of a 115 lbs cabinet.
Good grief! If that keeps up it will become cheaper to make a road trip out of it. No wonder I've seen so many 4x12's with "P/U Only" in the for sale listing.

I did some of the same.
Gave my son an MM Cutlass and small Swart combo and my
semi-pro muso son-in-law an MM JP6 and Boogie Express 5:50.

The Mesa quickly replaced his old Twin as his #1 which was great.

4x12s just don't hold their value because no one wants to deal with shipping one. It's pretty much CL or FB Marketplace and it's hard to sell stuff over $800 there.

Apparently some of you guys are the ones hoarding the vintage Marshall 4x12s lol

It's been really difficult finding a good one locally.

I have a few pieces that I wonder about when I drop dead. When I was a kid I bought a 68 Plexi for $425 and that was a lot. This was in the 80's. HAD to have that sound cause thats what was the thing. Today a lot of kids are into modelers cause thats whats in and wouldnt even think about using a vintage Marshall. Not all kids, but when I taught the majority of my students called them dinosaur amps.

It would be interesting in 30 years from now to see if digital has improved to the point that you can get the tone and feel of a vintage amp in an all in one box. Some guys swear they can now. I am completely open to having a nice small 3u rack and get everything my gear does now, but for me its just not happening.

I guess if your using the stuff or dont really need the money then I would hang on to what you can. Its a sellers market for sure and if your pretty positive you will get rid of the stuff at some point, then now would be time while the gettings good.

All my marshall collection before it is too late. As in nobody wants this shit anymore.
Guys were saying this back in 07/08' when the AxeFx came out. Tube amps were on their way out back then.
Look where we are today..
