What bands did it?

The other day I was thinking about Van Halen, the band, and how they split from Roth and picked up Sammy Hagar and still remained at the top of their game continuing to make hit after hit which impacted the world. Not many bands have done this for sure. Ie continued relevance and hits after a major change…. So the question is; what other Rock bands did this and kept their name? My keyboard player told me AC/DC- bam; excellent example.. If Nirvana didn’t change the name, Dave Grohl would be in there.. I’ve been thinking about the Eagles which is hard call as I believe the real band to be Glenn Frey and Don Henley; even though the other members are important. Idk. This isn’t a wrong or right answer. Just mental fodder. Would Def Leppard be considered based on the loss of an arm? Ehh.

Maybe not as popular but: Black Sabbath, Dio, Journey, Killswitch Engage, Lynyrd Skynyrd (?).

Also, as an interesting opposite, David Lee Roth lost his band and formed a new one and was very successful continuing on - in his own right.

Yeah on Roth for sure. Dio yes. Does journey have any big hits after perry?

No big hits per say but obviously the new singer guy has excellent 'replacement' chops to the point where it allowed them to keep touring in a relevant fashion.

No doubt he has some serious pipes. Youtube star nonetheless.
Yeah - I see now you were looking more for Hit Songs with a new singer. If that is the question - Journey doesn't count.

I think it is probably more that he hasn't really heard much Journey outside of the hits so has no reference point as to if the stuff they are doing now is any good. Also take in to account that Journey really were pretty much nothing from 85 really until the got Arnel in 07 so pretty hard to say they just carried on making good music with a transition to a new singer

But the Beatles just separated and became solo guys (minus wings I guess- but he could have been just Paul McCartney) unless you are talking about Pete Best…. And wings didn’t keep the name like Van Halen And AC/DC which were massive before and after with a big change. I agree. There are boatloads of musicians who went on to have great careers. Or visa versa they became supergroups. But who had huge change; death, firing, quitting, loss of an arm etc went on after and not miss a beat.

Van Halen to me was a shell of it's former self with Sammy , I always thought Sammy's voice was a terrible fit . I never considered Van Halen a success with Sammy, I know many disagree but that's what I think.

They went from alphas to betas and I like some of the old solo Sammy tunes.

Toto's gone through several singers over the years and managed to maintain some sort of success.

I heard about the Beatles. And they were influential in their time. I would like to know why you hoped is a Faul reference?
well given this thread is about bands that seamlessly changed singers and continued to make great music with the new singer and given the fact the Beatles NEVER CHANGED SINGERS, my thought was it had to be about the long rumour death of Paul in a car accident and him being "swapped out" for "billy shears"
