I got a bunch of new pedals lately besides the Wizard Gate, but decided to make separate threads. I’ve read some good things on here about this pedal and heard some really good sounding clips, so decided to get one and it’s become my new favorite Fuzz! I love a good Fuzz. I’ve been through so many, yet never heard one so over the top hairy/growly/nasty like this one. Some may interpret it as sounding broken, but that’s part of what makes it awesome too lol
I’ve got currently a ‘70’s Foxx Tone Machine, 2000’s Reissue Foxx Tone Machine (sounds ~90% as good as the original to me), a ‘90’s Russian Big Muff Bubble-Tall Font transitional model, Thorpy Boneyard, Formula B Soviet Tank, Bumblebuzz, & Danelectro French Toast if that says anything. Going from this Fuzz Bender to any of these others is like that effect you get when you taste something so sweet that Coca Cola all of sudden now tastes like seltzer. Makes them almost sounds like just an overdrive or light distortion pedal in comparison, like they’re not even fuzzes lol
I do have to admit though that underneath all this super gnarly Fuzz I still hear that plastic-y/filtered new-gear sound that I don’t like, but I’ve been thinking about getting another and looking into if maybe someone can upgrade some components to make it sound more organic like a good vintage pedal. Would greatly appreciate any help/input on that if anyone here has any. Those vintage ones I’ve got (‘70’s Foxx & ‘90’s Russian BM) definitely sound more organic, but the voicing of this Fuzz Bender is just so damn good and fun. It’s so nice to finally come across a piece of gear once in a while that is something I can always replace when if I had to from a store like a Guitar Center and reasonably priced. Most of my keeper worthy stuff sadly is either rare, expensive or both. Not this one thankfully
