I don't mean to "bag" on it myself. Like I said, I'm pretty ignorant about it. I like the discussion, and I'd love to be proven wrong. But what is a fact is a lot of that "magic" doesn't usually translate to clips. At least not that I've heard. And honestly, recorded tones are what interest me the most. I am aware it's not the same for all people. But no one has been able to tell me an objective reaston as to why the vintage gear is "better" either.People that bag on vintage or let’s say more ‘expensive’ gear, in most cases haven’t ever seen let alone played through any of it.
It’s what I like to call the ‘Charvel Dan’ syndrome.
Rip on something that they’ve never even heard in person. Or seen.
The 80s Marshall Vintage speaker is very different sounding than the well worn 1991 BV cab I had. Both cool but I prefer the 80s version by a mile.
Then again, my view is very narrow, I admit it. I have no interest in old Plexis, Bassmans, Dumbles, JCM800's, etc, for example.
To be completely honest, I am guilty of lusting aver a Rev F. But I also know that I could get along just fine with a Multiwatt or even just a plain old 3-channel, TBH (if I could play loud where I live).
