Early 90’s Marshall 1960V cabs VS new production?

People that bag on vintage or let’s say more ‘expensive’ gear, in most cases haven’t ever seen let alone played through any of it.
It’s what I like to call the ‘Charvel Dan’ syndrome.
Rip on something that they’ve never even heard in person. Or seen.

The 80s Marshall Vintage speaker is very different sounding than the well worn 1991 BV cab I had. Both cool but I prefer the 80s version by a mile.
I don't mean to "bag" on it myself. Like I said, I'm pretty ignorant about it. I like the discussion, and I'd love to be proven wrong. But what is a fact is a lot of that "magic" doesn't usually translate to clips. At least not that I've heard. And honestly, recorded tones are what interest me the most. I am aware it's not the same for all people. But no one has been able to tell me an objective reaston as to why the vintage gear is "better" either.

Then again, my view is very narrow, I admit it. I have no interest in old Plexis, Bassmans, Dumbles, JCM800's, etc, for example.

To be completely honest, I am guilty of lusting aver a Rev F. But I also know that I could get along just fine with a Multiwatt or even just a plain old 3-channel, TBH (if I could play loud where I live).

I tend to agree with you, like usual. With guitar amps, I mean they are as great ( better) than they were 50 years ago, theres simply no way to argue against that fact. You can buy an amazing handwired plexi that would absolutely smoke the brakes off 80-90 percent of early 70s and even late 60s plexis. Hell im about to make a post about the axe fx 3 with a tube power amp and real cab. My fucking face fell off listening to the models of plexis and other vintage amps. They sound 100 percent…. Yea I said it….100 percent…. Like the amps they model.


Pro audio gear however, is a different story. But at the same time, there are amazing clones of all the best vintage gear. My BAE 1073s stand with anything vintage neve 73s and there ain’t no one on the planet that will argue that. My IGS pultec clone is every bit as good as anything I’ve heard out of a vintage unit.

…and there’s the big difference between us; you go on clips or how they record. I’m an ‘in the room or on stage’ person. Honestly, if I cared that much about recording I’d get an AXE FM3 or another modeler and call it done. Simple, easy and records direct without spending gazillions on mics etc.
There are some killer new amps out now though, that interest me…Mark VII, Uber Ultra…but I honestly get some pretty cool tones with my Marshalls + pedals, vintage to modern sounding. With all the different speaker cabs I have, I can cover almost anything I want to.
