in this day and age how could anyone consider that a threat? This country is so far removed from Christianity how it can even be a topic for discussion is beyond me. Because of Roe v. Wade? I don't get it.

I’m fine with a Christian controlled government. Hell I would rather live under the taliban than the extreme woke leftists…lol….

If it isn't orthodox it's just heresy so the net effect is some heretical loser forcing his rotten version of the bible on all of us. Most of the churches are ecumenical now which is why Johnny is right, it does pose a problem.

I don't really agree with that. I'm not a heretic because I'm not orthodox. Or Catholic. Just like a lot of protestants feel you guys are idolaters, I don't think that at all. Does that make sense?

Of course you don't, no offense intended here. But until you're orthodox you won't believe it. Once you are you will see things in a different light. I can tell you that protestant faiths are like a completely different religion. No divine liturgy. No worship. Grape juice and a flek of dry crust for communion? No remembrance of the saints or martyrs. Just sipping coffee on a bench listening to a lecturer give a speech like Ted-X. My brother is baptist. He tries to tell me bible stuff all the time but there is nothing to discuss cause he's way off base and will be offended with what I say because he believes a heresy.

BTW the apostle Luke is recognized as the first iconographer so there is another protestant claim that doesn't hold water.

John 3:16......not eastern orthodoxy...or catholicism....or protestantism....and actually you will probably find we agree on more things than we disagree on...

The church fathers wrote the New Testament you are quoting. The church existed before the NT did. This is what I'm getting at. Protestantism is a huge source of confusion with it's thousands of denominations and interpretations.

I'm making the point there's really only one interpretation. When man gets involved that's when it gets fucked up. Am I making sense? Also the church fathers were the church fathers...of the church....way before the great schism....

You're making sense but a core tenet of orthodoxy is never allowing innovation. We don't change with the times. The divine liturgy is the same as in the time of the apostles. Nothing changes. Yes, there is only one interpretation that is correct. The romans break in 1054 over the filoque and their desire for papal authority. Then luther breaks from them. Now how many denominations are there? They are all heresies. There are heretical orthodox sects as well but it's a later development.

I gotta make a run to pick up my chain saw blades. Back in an hour. No offense intended or taken, I like discussing orthodoxy.

yup and I agree with what your saying. The word is the word. my point is in the beginning before there were churches and sects and denominations-how did everything go down? Jesus said go and sin no more repeatedly...where did they go? of course people were mostly jewish so they had temple...but there were no churches. The gentiles did not go to temple though...They practiced at home or in small groups. I think the main point is to believe first. Do I know what I'm talking about? Fuck no. Would I argue religion with an orthodox priest? Your peeps are squared away so fuck no. I would discuss it with about anyone else though? yes...respectfully of course.

As a devout Luciferian I’d like to weigh in on the Protestant side — do the Orthodox believe the Bible is the authoritative word of God or not?

The church is older than the NT writings. Scripture is authoritative, but it's not "solely scripture" or "sola scriptura" as protestants believe.

The Bible doesn’t acknowledge that AFAIK so you can’t really have it both ways.

Yes. I definitely do. We can talk more when you return.
